When are stripes more than just stripes? Follow up question: Is the product development team at Chevrolet really cocky enough to hide the next C7 Corvette variant in plain sight? This very recently spotted, and ostensibly obscured C7 asks a lot more questions than it answers, but there's at least some evidence to support that it might be the next Corvette Grand Sport.

The first and most obvious tip-off that something is up with this 'Vette revolves around those silver stripes. Obviously the stripes themselves don't necessarily denote a new model. However, when Chevy recently launched its "colorizer" website for the Stingray, there was no provision made for racing stripes – solid colors only.

Grand Sport exhibit number two is actually an incriminating lack of badges. The production Corvettes we've seen to date have all carried Stingray badges on their fenders, just behind the vent. The car seen in these images has no such badges, which is an intriguing omission on an car that looks like a production-spec vehicle otherwise.

The last clue is a subtle one, picked up on by the same spy photographers that have been following C7 prototypes around for ages now. There's a full car cover in the cargo area of the Corvette in these photos – that's an item that all of the other prototype 'Vettes carried as standard equipment – to thoroughly hide them from prying eyes when they needed to be parked outside.

Any one of these differences spotted on a manufacturer-driven 2014 Corvette would be easily brushed off as an anomaly, but taken as a whole there could be something else there. What say you? Is this the next Corvette Grand Sport we're looking at, or just some stripes and a pile of wishes? Share your thoughts, in comments.

Been wanting to see some photos of a yellow one for a while and it looks great! Can't beat their racing color IMO. Those stripes look so trashy though. Those little fender hashes on the current GS are pretty cool but this is just wrong. Don't do it GM!

I think we're just looking at a stripe prototype here. The Grand Sport model replaced the Z51 package on the C6 for 2010. Why would they bring that name back when the Z51 package is back as well?

my first thought was just that they were winter-testing their striping packages -- kind of important, especially if they're vinyl or have some special paint/coating, etc.

Except for the dark gray and the black Stingray(s), these color schemes make the car look too \'cartoonish\'.

How much will this cost? Because it's cheap interior and try hard exterior will not compete with more expensive sports cars.

Considering they had Audi reps admiring the interior at Detroit this year... I think the "Cheap Interior" days of the Vette are dead.

Yeah, it's completely legitimate to compare the interior of a two seat sports car to that of an SUV. While we're at it, why don't we compare their 0-60 and quarter-mile times? When comparing things like interiors, you generally do it between vehicles that can be considered direct competitors. Okay? I don't think there are too many people cross-shopping Audi Q7s and Corvettes.

Fine, the interior of a 911 or R8 are much nicer as well since you need a direct comparison. We're talking quality of materials here.

Have sat in the new Corvette yet? I didn't think so. If you can come to such conclusions by just looking at photos then you must have some incredible eyesight. The fact is is that a Corvette will destroy many of those more expensive sports cars.

You can definitely SEE(with your eyes) some degree of the quality of the materials used. Sure, they could surprise you if you actually say in one but GM isn't known for it's wow factor on the 'Vettes interior.

\"It joins the c4 as the corvette no one cares about. Ugh.\" The one thing more annoying than referring to oneself in the third person is referring to ones\' limited opinion as the aggregate\'s. If you don\'t like the car, that\'s dandy. But there are plenty who have no qualms with the styling, and more still who are more interested in how the car builds upon the C6\'s abilities.

It has more to do with how you voice your displeasure that fuels the attacks. When you so viciously attack a car you've never even seen in person, compare it to crossovers, and talk about how its interior is far behind those of more expensive sports cars, it leaves many of us thinking that your name suits you quite well. You come across as a bit of a taint at times.

So every time you attack the Corvette somebody responds by voicing displeasure with what you drive? Simple semantics. If you liked Corvettes you would be driving one instead of the Audi. If they liked Audi's they would be driving one instead of a Corvette. Most people will be quite positive in talking about whatever choice they made in automobile selection. I happen to be quite pleased with my C6 and don't recognize those points which seem to draw negative comments from those that seem bent on shredding the Corvette. Its a nice car that I drive frequently and just don't find anything wrong with it. The Audi's are nice cars too...I just prefer the 'Vette. what I don't understand is the tendency for people to "attack" anything just because it is not their choice to own it or especially because they couldn't own it if they wanted to. Wouldn't it be boring if there were no choices and everyone had to drive the same thing?

I kind of like them, but I can see that. I think this thing really needs an option to paint all the black vents body-color. The back end would look a lot different without all the swoopy black elements. Fwiw, I think the quad round exhaust tips is more distracting.

The funny thing here are that a majority of the people commenting are in no way, shape or form in the market for a car like this. It just shows how much the media has brain washed people to dislike General Motors products. Keep in mind, the current ZR1, dollar for dollar, still kicks everything else around. This new version of the Vette brings the much needed refresh on this AMERICAN Icon...

        @GC
Not everyone is brainwashed, some just expect more than a Cobalt interior when you try to justify $120k on a ZR1. You could get away with the interior on a base C6, but once you get so high in price you have to stop making excuses about it. Luckily the interior is much improved in the C7 and doesn't come off as cheap and crappy (at least to me) so it won't be a tough pill to swallow on the ZR1.

What the hell are you babbling about? Where in this article did it say anything negative about the car or GM? As for your ZR-1 comment, the Nissan GT-R wants to have a word with you.

The GT-R is consistently a tad slower on the majority of the tracks that the two cars are tested on. The ZR1 has also been quicker in every head to head comparison.

GM's got some fantastic automobiles. The new SS, the CTS, etc... I was even a huge fan of the C6 but this, this is not very pretty. Has nothing to do with hating GM. As for not being in the market, were I, the new C7 wouldn't even be considered.
