The 2013 Audi RS6 Avant was announced back in December with a twin-turbo V8 cranking out 560 horsepower, but Car is reporting that this badass grocery getter could get even more power with a new Plus model. In a conversation with Car, Stephan Reil, Audi's top guy at its Quattro GmbH division, told the magazine that the RS6 Avant Plus would produce around 600 horsepower, and it sounds like there is a growing family of RS Plus models being planned as well.

Aside from the more powerful engine, the specifics of the RS6 Avant Plus are unknown, but we'd suspect some weight-savings measures and updated features for improved handling. Like recent RS Plus models such as the TT RS Plus and R8 Plus, the RS6 Avant Plus will not be a limited-production unit when it goes on sale (most likely for the 2014 model year).

Always loved it. As a European i know Audi got this quite negative image in North America and i wonder could it be partly because of the negative image towards wagons there? +70% A4 and A6's here in Sweden are Avants (wagons) and to me and seemingly to others they really are kind of designed to be wagons. Lines are somehow purer and in general just look awesome and modern.

It's because Americans think wagons are uncool and worthless. We think they can't hold as much as an SUV/CUV even though most are just raised wagons and/or base off car chassis. We think "trucks" are cooler and sportier (SPORT utility vehicle my butt. A Lexus RX is NOT sporty nor a truck. It's cute. That's all). The only thing we have that is wagon AND awesome is the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon. And I think that's been killed off.

If I ever hit the big time and I need a family hauler, the E63 will take my money. I applaud Mercedes for being the only German marque that offers a Hi-Po wagon (or a wagon in this class for that matter). I wish Audi would do the same and I wish Opel would bring over the Insignia Wagon. And I know I'm discounting the CTS but I subjectively don't like its styling.

@latebloomer That E63 AMG wagon isn't AWD is it? I thought it was FR exclusively.

That's interesting, I'm from Southern New England and I can say that Audi has a very strong place in the market, and I think it shed it's unflattering image years ago (5000). You also see a lot of Audi, Mercedes, and Volvo wagons around the area. I know that doesn't correspond to a lot of other areas, but wagons are alive and well liked here. Now a 600HP wagon... nice, but too expensive for me.

It's so nice to look at. We need more sport wagons competing here in the U.S.

Dear Audi North America, I'd settle for the A6 Avant being brought back to the U.S...and please don't burden us with crap-cladding and raised road-clearance in an effort try to "SUV" the damned thing for the ignorant masses. Any upgrade versions would be icing on the cake...

Unfortunately, the ignorant masses control the leasing pocketbook, and they lease the plastic-cladded, road-raised pseudo-rugged look.

I was driving from Milan to Rome one day and got smoked by an RS6 Avant (this was 3 years ago), and I'd never been so impressed. Made me want to stand up and beg for buttermilk.

This car is a plus even without the Plus, and also while I'm dreaming about having cake and eating it to, bring over the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer OPC as the Regal GTP (Grand Touring Package). Smoke all the bright work and you will have another great looking and functionally fast wagon to go along with the Caddy CTS-V wagon. More automotive greatness that 40 people will buy in the US. Oh well... http://www.netcarshow.com/Opel-Insignia_OPC_Sports_Tourer-2010-wallpaper.jpg
