Hyundai is gearing up for this year's SEMA Show in a big way. The Korean automaker has partnered up with Cosworth to develop a special Genesis Coupe. The Cosworth CGRS Concept boasts a 389-horsepower version of the factory 3.8-liter, direct-injection V6. That's a respectable jump of 41 horsepower over the stock six cylinder, and the additional power comes courtesy of a Cosworth intake and exhaust, new engine control parameters and improved thermal management. A Cosworth big brake system and suspension help keep the coupe pointed in the right direction. This is SEMA, however, which means the coupe also gets a slathering of interior and exterior tweaks.

Inside, Cosworth served up a steering wheel, shift knob, pedals, shift boot and sports seats, while slathering the vehicle's body in satin and gloss blue paint. The stock front fascia was ditched in favor of a new piece with integrated carbon fiber brake ducts. Speaking of the composite, Cosworth whipped up a front splitter, side skirt, rear diffuser and trunk lid spoiler from the stuff just for this car. Look for the Cosworth Genesis Coupe to debut at the SEMA Show next month. Until then, check out the full press release below.

COSWORTH DEVELOPS ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE CONCEPT FOR 2012 SEMA SHOW

World-class Racing Tuner Cosworth Takes Hyundai's Rear-drive Platform To its full Potential and Beyond

COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 1, 2012 – Hyundai chose the world-renowned engineering design and manufacturer, Cosworth, as a development partner to create the ultimate Genesis Coupe known as the Cosworth Genesis Racing Series (CGRS). The eye-grabbing blue Cosworth CGRS concept will be showcased with the Hyundai brand at the upcoming 2012 SEMA show.

This special Cosworth-tuned model takes the new Genesis Coupe 3.8-liter, direct-injected engine to racecar levels, with an impressive 389 horsepower at 6400 rpm, and tire-shredding torque of 325 lb.-ft. at 5100 rpm, all with daily-driving civility. From the exterior, the Cosworth design theme radiates a retina-bending satin-gloss blue finish, aero front splitter, gunmetal-finish lightweight racing wheels, integrated rear spoiler, and blackout rear diffuser. While unmistakably race-oriented, the Cosworth concept retains the original Genesis Coupe design language, focusing most on astounding performance gains and real-world performance potential.

"The rear-drive Genesis Coupe is simply a great platform from which to build our ultimate Cosworth Genesis Racing Series street model," said Nicole Armbrustmacher, director of marketing, Cosworth Americas. "The Cosworth Genesis Racing Series Coupe truly demonstrates the purpose-built performance potential of the affordable Genesis Coupe line. We're proud to partner with Hyundai for this ultimate racing series model."

While the exterior is purposeful and subdued, the Cosworth Genesis Coupe goes far beyond exterior cosmetics, with maximized under-hood performance modifications, a race-like interior environment, tires, brakes and suspension. The comprehensive list of Cosworth performance enhancements include:

389hp from an NA V6 is fantastic, great-looking car, maybe a little too slammed but otherwise cool.

Ah, good ol' Cosworth. Very good power, without all the 'look at me!' add-ons of other tuners. Crisp, clean, and very understated, in comparison. It would be nice to see this go into limited production, although the chances are pretty slim, being a SEMA car and all.

Hopefully this portends to Hyundai bringing Cosworth in to help out with future engines.

I'll take a stab that 389 might be to the wheels? Cosworth engineers are Top Notch engineers they were able extract 1200+ HP from a 1.5L Turbo V6 back in 1987 imagine what they can do with today's technology and have reliable drivability out of that motor. I'm thinking Cosworth Spec-R package. Rear Seat Delete, stiffened and lightened everything!

Pretty sure that's horsepower at the flywheel. You're making a bit of an apples to oranges comparison.

How much power you can safely extract from an engine is frequently design and material limited. Getting >10% from a N/A engine is nothing to scoff at.
