Some 36,000 Versa owners will soon be getting mail from Nissan. Automatic transmission-equipped 2012 Versas built between June 9, 2011, and January 13, 2012, may have defective shifter knobs or shifter assemblies, which could allow the car to be shifted out of park without first pressing the brake pedal.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report says that the defect increases the risk of crash or injury to pedestrians. The recall campaign is scheduled to begin on February 20, and concerned owners can call Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

That car is so ugly the forces of the universe have all conspired against it to make it disappear from the face of earth. I think the British Top Gear should also help by destroying these cars at any chance they get as they have been doing for some time now to the Morris Marina's.

Rather then just say it looks like crap, instead here is why: 1) The wheelbase to overall length ratio is archaic with a huge garish rear overhang. 2) The cars tallish height makes it look awkward. 3) The proportions of the headlights and taillights, which were designed to make it look small and cute, make it look odd and unnatural given the tall height. 4) The Quasi Bangle butt and the modified Hofmeister kink rear window make it look pretentious and don't match the front. 5) Worst of all it looks bland and even cheap with the black monocolor side mirrors.

" tallish height makes it look awkward." I agree with you, but doesn' t that description apply to just about every puffed-up crossover, Venza, 5GT and CUV roaming America's malls today? But I think you are being to harsh to the Versa; it is intended as modest-cost basic transportation, and it probably does this job well.

How about recalling it for missing personality, design/style or desirability?
