RACE report shows that LPG is a viable solution

The Real Automóvil Club de España (RACE) as well as its German counterpart ADAC, have released a complete report defending the use of LPG (Liquiefied Petroleum Gas) as a viable alternative to gasoline. The complete report (which you can download following the link below) states that LPG is a reasonable solution for the following reasons:

Hyundai may build Hybrid LPG Elantra in Australia

Liquified petroleum gas (commonly referred to as propane) has never really caught as a motor fuel in the U.S. although it is used by some fleets. However, drivers in Australia may have a new LPG-fueled vehicle to choose from. In fact they may have an LPG mild hybrid available soon at Hyundai dealers. Hyundai Australia is considering local production of the LPG hybrid Elantra that goes on sale in Korea in 2009. Australia has sufficient domestic supplies of LPG that they don't have to import any.

Roush propane F-150 leaves minimal carbon footprint

In some countries, LPG (liquified propane gas) is an increasingly common fuel for automobiles due to its comparatively low cost and 15-20 percent lower emissions compared to gasoline or diesel fuel. Though some are against the practice, a few governments encourage the use of LPG through lowered taxes. In America, propane for automotive use is usually limited to large fleets, where the specializ

2008 Shell Eco-marathon Americas roster - all 38 teams - announced

We're getting close to the start of the 2008 Shell Eco-marathon Americas, and the list of 38 teams that will participate in the competition in some ways mimics real-world power train usage. The overwhelming majority (28) of the vehicles will use combustion engines to try and top last year's incredible 1902 mpg winning score. Alongside the gas engines will be six fuel cell, one LPG,

LPG vs Biofuels: Cleaner fuel but more CO2

Most of our readers might not be familiar with LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) but it's a fuel that is very hot in countries like Belgium, Germany, Italy, France and Australia. LPG is a mixture of hydrocarbon gases (propane and/or butane) that is liquefied and then used as a fuel. It is non-toxic and non-corrosive, and it burns cleaner than gasoline or diesel and is much more free of particulates when compared to the latter. However, it's got a lower energy density, with a lower mpg. Still, since

Kenworth announces new LNG trucks

A look at the home page and press release section of Kenworth Truck Company's website will show you that reducing fuel consumption and emissions is a very big deal to the trucking industry. The fact that these trucks are the vehicles which log the most miles on American roadways should tell you all you need to know as to why. By improving the aerodynamics of their vehicles, cutting down idling time and explaining how (.pdf link) to maximize your fuel economy, Kenwor

UK drivers have a new guide to propane filling stations and converters

Hank Hill would be proud. Heck he would probably sell them at Strickland Propane in Arlen, Texas for people planning to travel to the UK. A new atlas of Great Britain is being published that shows the locations of LPG filling stations and companies that do LPG conversions. LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) is more commonly referred to as propane although it's actually a mix of propane, butane, methane and other gases. As Hank would say, it'

Can natural gas and LPG help the cities? They're going to try that out

Fundació Gas Natural has published a study on how CNG vehicles can improve the air quality in Barcelona and Madrid, Spain. Of course, Gas Natural sells natural gas and is quite interested in this happening, but the study was performed with the Mare Nostrum supercomputer in the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya's Campus Nord in Barcelona. It's claimed that this is the 9th most powerful computer in the world, and the

300 bhp Subaru WRX runs on LPG, can be user-tuned for economy or performance

One of the reasons homebrew biodiesel is becoming more and more common, I believe, is that it allows individuals to take some control over their own fuel. But going that route is quite an investment of time and money. For people who like to have some say in the way their car burns fuel, but don't want to actually make any fuel, Future Power is about to display an LPG conversion package quite ready for high performance cars and luxury vehicles.

Iran will produce only Dual-Fuel vehicles after July 23

Dual-fuel, the next-of-kin to Flex-fuel, is the new hotness over in Iran. At least, according to Iran's Industries and Mines Minister Ali Reza Tahmasebi, who announced that production of gasoline-only cars would be completely replaced with LPG/Gasoline dual-fuel cars by July 23rd. Annual Iranian auto production is over a million, so this really will be a sweeping change, though questions about the availability of LPG are sowing d

GM Holden Commodore adds duel-fuel option

GM Holden Australia has added a factory-backed dual-fuel option (petrol + liquid petroleum gas) to the latest models of its leading large car, the Commodore. It's not a cheap option though, adding almost AUD$2000 (US$1546) to the standard price even after a federal government rebate is taken into account. While liquid petroleum gas (LPG) is significantly cheaper than regular unleaded petrol, only people like taxi drivers who put in huge kilometres behind the wheel are likely to gain the full fin

Holden's dual-fuel (LPG/gasoline) V6 engine option

Holden's dual-fuel V6 is being offered in the new VE-series Omega, Berlina and select Commodores. The 3.6L Alloytec powerplant can switch seamlessly between LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) and gasoline without any serious difference in power. Furthermore, the setup is said to offer an operating range of 1100km (683 miles) or better (assuming both tanks are full at the beginning of a journey).
