Toyota will recall the 2016 RAV4, RX350, and ES350 because of a possible manufacturing fault with the brake actuator.

Toyota is recalling 31,000 units of the Avalon and Lexus ES. The pre-collision system can misidentify objects in the road as a hazard and activate the brakes, potentially leading to a crash.

NHTSA is considering whether to open an investigation into unintended acceleration claims in the 2009 Lexus ES350. An owner claims the sedan surged forward while pulling into a parking space in February 2015 and caused a crash.

From the "things that should probably already be there" file comes the announcement that Toyota will be installing brake override systems in response to recent incidents of runaway cars. Toyota North America president Yoshi Inaba told Automotive News that the system will force the engine into idle if it senses the driver is trying to apply the brakes unsuccessfully.
