2021 RAM 1500

2021 1500 Photos
The 2021 Ram 1500 offers something for nearly every full-size truck buyer, and it does so with more style, inside and out, than any of its competitors. It also benefits from a five-link coil spring rear suspension that offers better ride quality than those same rivals, which still use leaf springs. Ram’s optional air suspension improves its driving dynamics even further. We aren’t surprised when it passes its rival, the Chevrolet Silverado, to take second-place in the pickup sales war behind the Ford F-Series.

The Ram 1500 was last redesigned for 2019. The 2021 gains an optional head-up display, digital rear-view mirror, Trailer Reverse Steering Control, Snow Plow Prep package and a Pedestrian Detection setup. A Limited Longhorn 10th Anniversary Edition gets unique badging and a Mountain Brown interior.

The 2021’s base engine remains a 3.6-liter V6 that is aided by a 48-volt mild hybrid system Ram calls eTorque. That combination offers 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque and achieves EPA-estimated fuel economy figures of 20 mpg city, 25 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive, and 19/24/21 with four-wheel drive. A rear-drive V6-powered HFE trim level adds one mpg to both city and highway scores. Two 5.7-liter V8 engines are available, and they both produce 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. In their most efficient rear-drive layout, the option that benefits from eTorque achieves 17/23/19, while the non-eTorque version delivers 15/22/17.

A 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine that produces 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque was added last year, and it carries forward for 2021. Its EPA ratings of 22 mpg city, 32 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined in 4x2 trim mean it’s the most efficient Ram 1500 available. In 4x4 guise it offers 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined.

From the bare bones Tradesman that can tow as much as 12,750 pounds through the volume-selling Big Horn and Lone Star models and straight through the luxurious and leather-lined Laramie, Longhorn and Limited editions, Ram covers a wide range of truck buyers. An off-road oriented Rebel is also available with unique styling, beefy tires and heavy-duty chassis suspension bits.
