If your 36-month lease is nearing its end, good news: BMW has finally announced pricing on the all-new 2017 5 Series sedan. So get your deposits ready and choose your favorite shade of silver. The car is set to make its public debut in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit before it hits showrooms on February 11. Prices haven't changed all that much, though the naming scheme is more convoluted and unrepresentative than ever.

The 2017 BMW 530i will be available for $52,195, the 530i xDrive for $54,495, the BMW 540i for $57,445 and the BMW 540i xDrive model for $59,745. That's about $1,000 more per variant than the respective 2016 5 Series model. Pricing on the upcoming BMW M550i xDrive and BMW 530e and 530e xDrive iPerformance models hasn't been released yet. Those three won't be available until sometime in the spring.

That extra $1,000 does score buyers a bit more standard equipment. All 5 Series now include active LED headlights and 18-inch wheels. The four-cylinder model gets an all-new engine with 8 additional ponies as well as a name change, from 528i to 530i. Meanwhile, the inline-six gains 35 horsepower in its transformation from 535i into the new 540i. Yes, the numbers have nothing to do with the displacement, but they haven't for years. Also, they have to be bigger than last year's model. How else will you know it's better?
