Shelby teams up with David Yurman for wristwatch line

Say what you will, but in this business you're nobody until you have your own watch line. Ferrari has several, Bentley teams up with Breitling, Aston Martin partners with Jaeger-LeCoultre, Bugatti with Parmigiani Fleurier... the list goes on and on, and now includes one more: Carroll Shelby and David Yurman.

The collaboration was forged over the timepiece you see here, created to accompany the 950-horsepower Shelby 1000 unveiled at the New York Auto Show just last month. The David Yurman Limited Edition Shelby 1000 timepiece features a Swiss-made Valjoux 7753 automatic chronograph in a 43.5mm stainless steel and rubber case with tachymeter bezel and guilloche racing stripes on the galvanized steel dial.

It's affixed to the wrist by a rubber strap with snakeskin texture, and only 300 examples will be made: 150 in bare stainless steel and 150 with a black PVD coating. It's the first of many Shelby-branded wristwatches that the David Yurman brand will be making for Shelby, and you can check it out in high-resolution by clicking the image above and scrolling down below for the full press release.

Carroll Shelby Licensing and David Yurman Unveil Limited Edition Timepieces at New York Auto Show

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Carroll Shelby Licensing Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (Pink Sheets: CSBI), and David Yurman, premier jewelry and timepiece designer, have announced an agreement for an exclusive line of Shelby Limited Edition watches. To commemorate the unveiling of the Shelby 1000 at the New York International Auto Show, David Yurman revealed its Limited Edition Shelby 1000 timepiece during the press conference by Shelby American Inc., a division of Carroll Shelby International (Pink Sheets: CSBI), on Thursday, April 5, 2012.

"Shelby and David Yurman are among the most respected American brands in their industries," said Tracey Smith, president of Carroll Shelby Licensing. "Just like the cars that created the Shelby American legend, David Yurman creates handcrafted jewelry and timepieces that are equally valued by collectors and enthusiasts. The Yurman watch and eyewear perfectly complement the exclusive Shelby 1000 vehicle. It beautifully demonstrates the innovation of both brands that deliver unique and distinctive time-honored products."

Inspired by Shelby American's illustrious 50-year history and the unleashing of its most powerful car yet, the Limited Edition Shelby 1000 timepiece also sports a stealth, 43.5mm stainless steel and rubber case, which houses the Swiss automatic chronograph Valjoux 7753 movement. A tachymeter is engraved on the bezel, allowing the wearer to log lap times with ease and the iconic Shelby Cobra insignia is hand-finished and applied to the multi-layer galvanic dial, which is accentuated by vertical, guilloche racing stripes.

A highly textured natural rubber strap inspired by the cobra snake belly keeps the timepiece secure and, as with every special car to roll out of Shelby American's factory, the timepiece back is etched with Carroll Shelby's signature. Ultimately, Shelby 1000 timepieces are a true testament to David Yurman's celebrated design aesthetic, artistic disposition and passion for creating the finest precision timepieces available.

"For half a century, Shelby American has been creating iconic cars that have both progressed automotive design as well as demonstrated how beautiful and affecting American craftsmanship can be," said David Yurman. "It's this extraordinary dedication to craftsmanship and design that gravitated us to partner on this project, as both brands share the same passion for building beautiful objects of the highest possible quality."

On its return to the New York International Auto Show 50 years after the company made its debut there, Shelby American introduced the world's most powerful series of muscle cars. Shelby American enhanced the power, braking and handling of the 2012 Ford Shelby GT500 to create the Shelby 1000. The car is offered in both street and the "S/C" track version. The street legal, pump gas version is rated at approximately 950 HP, while the track oriented S/C version is rated at over 1,100 HP.

David Yurman will produce a limited edition run of 150 stainless steel and 150 black PVD versions of the timepiece, which will be available at David Yurman retail stores, select, authorized David Yurman Timepiece retailers and at www.davidyurman.com. The new timepieces were displayed near the Shelby 1000 in the Shelby American space at the New York International Auto Show through April 15.
