Honda Racing UK already working on NGTC-spec Civic

Of all the new debuts scheduled for the Frankfurt Motor Show – now less than two weeks away – few will proliferate quite like the new European-market Honda Civic. The Old World version of the new Civic has so far only been teased, but the company's UK competition division has already started work on the racing version that will take on the most famous circuits Great Britain has to offer.

The competition version of the new Euro Civic is being built according to the new NGTC rules employed by the British Touring Car Championship, and is currently undergoing development in conjunction with Team Dynamics. The outfit fields the old Civic, which was introduced to the BTCC back in 2007, with considerable success: the team has collected a slew of titles in the series, including the teams' and manufacturers' championships last season, and is currently sitting second and third in the current standings.

Expect the new racer to be unveiled sometime after the road car makes its debut in Frankfurt. In the meantime, Honda has released the first of a four-part video series highlighting its BTCC effort. Check it out after the jump.

HONDA TO RACE ALL-NEW CIVIC IN BTCC
Honda Racing and Team Dynamics confirm plans for 2012 season

Honda will compete in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship in 2012 with a race-prepared version of its all-new Civic hatchback.

Two brand new race cars are being built by Honda's long-standing BTCC partner, Team Dynamics, to meet the latest NGTC regulations.

The Honda Racing Team will contest the championship as a full 'works' entry, hoping to repeat the success of 2010, when it won both the Teams' and Manufacturers' titles.

"We are delighted to enter the new Civic in next year's BTCC, and hope to build on the success we've already had with the current model," said Dave Hodgetts, Managing Director of Honda (UK).

"We've made significant improvements to the new road car, and we're confident those changes will make for a competitive race car too.

"The Civic is the perfect model to compete in British Touring Cars, as it has been born and bred in the UK. The new car has been tested on more UK roads than any other Honda, and it will continue to be built exclusively in Swindon."

Honda Racing Team driver, Matt Neal said: "We are all looking forward to 2012, and from my point of view it is very exciting to have the prospect of driving the new Honda Civic.

"The team's development of the car is already well underway, and the new Civic will fit the BTCC's 'Next Generation Touring Car' regulations. I'm sure it will keep Honda at the front, and in the winner's circle, both off and on track!"

Drivers and sponsors for 2012 will be announced over the coming months.

'What drives a racing team' film released
Honda has also released the first of four documentary films on what drives the Honda Racing Team to achieve success in the British Touring Car Championship.

The first short film focuses on the way the entire team works together over the course of the season. The second film, which tells the story of the two Honda Racing Team drivers, will be released on Thursday, 15 September.
