Over the weekend, Oliver Young piloted his electrified Black Current dragster down the quarter-mile track at the UK's Santa Pod Raceway with a record-setting time of 9.51 seconds, becoming the first street-bodied electric vehicle to blaze down 1,320 feet of tarmac in the 9's!

Black Current made headlines last summer when it crushed a Tesla Roadster at the dragstrip. Now, the electrified Bug is back in the spotlight with two sub-ten second passes down the quarter-mile track. With Oliver at the wheel, the car that Herbie wishes it could be knocked off its first run in 9.82 seconds at 133 mph, followed by a second run clocked at 9.51 seconds at 135.65 mph, proving that this was no fluke. We haven't found video of the record-setting run just yet, but you can hit the jump to watch the electrified Black Current smoke that Tesla Roadster back in 2010.
