For more than a year, Canada-based lithium-ion battery manufacturer Electrovaya has worked with Dodge on its prototype plug-in hybrid Ram truck project. The plug-in pickup, which uses Electrovaya's 12-kWh lithium-ion "SuperPolymer" battery, is expected to hit fleets by the end of summer 2011.
Apparently, the Dodge Ram project is one of at least two plug-in hybrid vehicles that Electrovaya's SuperPolymer batteries will power. Electrovaya has announced that it's been selected by a "major North American automotive OEM" to supply li-ion packs for a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) platform. Furthermore, delivery of the SuperPolymer packs for this undisclosed plug-in have commenced.
Dr. Sankar DasGupta, chief executive officer of Electrovaya, said in a statement that the deliveries marked, "a significant breakthrough in the company's goal of becoming the major battery supplier for the electric automotive marketplace."
