UK recycling company reaches 11mpg fleet average with Volvo skiploader

Remember that post on XATANET last week where I said I liked the idea of truckers sitting 'round the table bragging about their high mileage rates? Well, looks like Pearsons, a recycling and waste management company in Thetford, Norfolk (England) is doing just that after getting an 11mpg (Imperial) fleet average with it's fleet of 17 Volvo skiploaders. Reaching 11mpg was the company's goal and was the reason Pearsons standardized on the Volvo trucks. Eleven miles to the gallon may sound low, but, c'mon, these are industrial service vehicles. Each truck weighs 18 tons, and has a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 220 HP engine. Pearsons' Managing Director Jo Pearson called the Volvo's fuel economy "superb".
