High-mileage BMW Alpina D3 Diesel Saloon around the corner

Details of the new BMW Alpina D3 Diesel Saloon were announced and, well, look at this, a combined mileage rate of nearly 50 mpg (that's using Imperial gallons, which equal 1.2 gallons, but it's still impressive 40 mpg by my calculations) on the combined cycle. The Alpina D3's other statistics include a 2.0-liter diesel engine with 200hp, 302 lbs-ft of torque, 0-62mph in 7.4 seconds, a maximum speed of 145mph and a CO2 rating of 156g/km. All this for £26,995.

The actual mpg number for the D3 is 47.9mpg and it will be built alongside the BMW 320d. To make the D3 stand out, Alpina is adding unique features like exclusive aerodynamic front and rear spoilers, 19" ALPINA wheels and twin polished tailpipes. The interior has half leather sports seats, the trademark ALPINA steering wheel, gear knob, and instruments with red needles over blue dials, and an individually numbered production plaque (the car's production run is limited to about 100 in 2006).
