Ford Fusion seeing red in 2007

Hoping to further bolster sales of the popular Fusion, Ford will be offering a new "sport appearance" package on 2007 SE models equipped with the I-4 engine. The Detroit News reports that the package will go for less than $500 and include a black chrome grille, color-keyed fog lamps, 17-inch wheels, and red seat inserts with red stitching. A 2007 Fusion SEL without said appearance package is shown above.

Why all the red? Because dealers reporting from the front lines told Ford that consumers were drawn to the color red on the Fusion, particularly in the interior.

Ford will also offer a $300 trunk-mounted spoiler and a navigations sytem for less than $2,000 on SE and SEL models.

The Blue Oval is also working with Roush on a separate appearance package for the Mustang, and has authorized aftermarket company 3dCarbon to sell body kits for the Fusion.

It's all fine and dandy to tweak the Fusion's appearance to appeal to consumer tastes, but we're distressed at Mark Fields telling Motor Trend that the company's new 250-hp, 3.5L V6 would not be seen under the hood of a Fusion anytime soon. Sigh...
