Environmental group pushes Big 3 for more hybrids

While Bill Ford just announced Ford Motor Company will not produce 250,000 hybrids annually, as promised before, members of the Center for a New American Dream, a Takoma Park, MD-based environmental organization will visit Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp. and DaimlerChrysler headquarters to present the automakers with messages from 25,000 Americans concerned about fuel economy. The non-profit organization has been collecting consumers' photos, drawings, poems and reasons, which voice concerns about clean air, global warming and the nation's dependence on oil, since August 2004. The visit comes a day after the heads of the Big 3 told Congress they would double their production of ethanol vehicles by 2010 and a day after Bill Ford's announcement that Ford Motor Co. will not be able to produce 250,000 hybrids annually by 2010.
