Nissan recalls 44,000 Frontiers over fuel system concerns

/

issan announced Tuesday that it is recalling some 44,000 of its 2005-2006 King Cab Frontier pickups in North America. The manufacturer is saying that faulty gas caps could release during a severe side impact, allowing fuel to escape, creating a potential fire hazard.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a hard side-impact crash could stretch the cap’s tether, allowing it to give way. The potential flaw was discovered during a routine NHTSA test on January 20th, with Nissan conducting its own investigation before the recall was announced.
