One pony trick on the upcoming 2018 Ford Mustang: Drivers can pick the exhaust note they prefer. And though they'll have to wait for the actual car's debut to do that, they can get a preview of one of the choices on a free downloadable phone ringtone.
"Active Valve Performance Exhaust" will be an option on 2018 Mustang GTs with the 5.0-liter V8. A new "Pony" button on the steering wheel allows the driver to toggle through four exhaust-note options: "Quiet," "Normal," "Sport" and "Track." The engine notes are also matched to corresponding drive modes.
For the ringtone, Ford engineers recorded the sound of a Mustang GT revving its engine in "Track" mode. This little bit of marketing fun is available for download here. And give it a try below:
