In April of last year, Sebastian Vettel and David Coulthard drove the unpaved Sochi Formula One circuit in a pair of Infiniti M sedans, getting both muddy and airborne in the process. Now with tarmac laid down and fences put up, Vettel and Coulthard have gone back to the Black Sea vacation spot for another hot lap, this time in a Q50 Hybrid and without the need for mud flaps.

Sochi has earned the blessing of F1's race director, so now the next test will be the fans. With a healthy amount of wall-and-fencing along the straights, it has shades of Valencia for the viewer. We hope it will be much more exciting than its Spanish counterpart when racing happens on October 12. You'll find more videos below covering Infiniti's visits to the Sochi Autodrom, and a press release on the latest lap.

Sebastian Vettel becomes first Formula One driver to sample the Sochi Grand Prix Circuit

SOCHI, Russia, Aug. 25, 2014 – Four-time Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel today became the first F1™ driver to lap the newly completed Sochi Autodrom in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, ahead of this year's inaugural Russian Grand Prix.

The Infiniti Red Bull Racing driver and Infiniti Director of Performance travelled straight to Sochi from Spa Francorchamps after finishing fifth in the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday. After a tour of the venue's facilities, he completed a number of high-speed laps of the full Grand Prix circuit in an Infiniti Q50 Hybrid. Former F1 driver David Coulthard joined Vettel and drove the circuit with VIP guests and media.

Vettel is no stranger to Sochi, having visited the venue with Infiniti in April 2013 when the circuit was still under construction. Since then, the complex has hosted the 2014 Winter Olympic Games ahead of the inaugural Russian Grand Prix due to take place on October 12, 2014.

The Sochi Autodrom, designed by famed Formula One architect Hermann Tilke, features 18 corners across 5.8 kilometers and will host round 16 of the 2014 World Championship.

Commenting on his driving experience in Russia, Sebastian Vettel said: "It is great to be back in Sochi, and the venue has been transformed since I was last here when it was really just a construction site. Having driven the full circuit for the first time in the Infiniti Q50 today, it's an interesting layout with a good mix of high-speed corners and technical sections. It's going to be a huge challenge in a Formula One car for sure, and I'm really looking forward to coming back in October."

By playing Putin's games you justify the blood of innocents on his hands.

What a shame to Vettel to perform in Russia while Russian troops invaded to Ukraine! And while Russia sponsor terrorists for last 6 months!

Political... Nissan owning a controlling share in the Russian automaker AvtoVAZ is the only way that an Infiniti Redbull F1 driver can drive an Infiniti sedan in a Russian lap for the first time.

Winning in Sochi is more important, then driving in Sochi. Every driver on the grid will have the chance to drive in Sochi come October 10th.

I can't wait to watch Daniel Ricciardo lap the circuit ... 2 tenths of a second faster.

Nice track, but the lack of character reminds me to be thankful I have tracks like Laguna Seca, Sears Point and Thunder Hill in my backyard.

Seems surprisingly unsafe for a new track with all the concrete barriers.
