Spy photographers have spotted something interesting. Cadillac engineers have taken to public streets with the upcoming ATS-V and a playmate: the current BMW M3 Sedan. The prototype seen here wears a more aggressive front fascia, flared fenders and beefy brakes. Quad exhaust tips and what looks to be a small lip spoiler on the trunk deck sum up the most obvious visual changes over the standard ATS outside. Word has it the ATS-V will bow with the same twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 available in the nose of the XTS. In that application, the engine is good for a stout 410 horsepower, which should be more than enough to hustle the sedan around a track.

Other details are still murky, however. First and foremost: will GM offer the ATS-V with an honest manual transmission, like it does with its big brother, the CTS-V? Something tells us we won't have long to wait to find out – the machine will likely bow next year as a 2015 model. Until then, dig in on our newest bevy of spy photos.

I applaud Cadillac's strategy to move the CTS upmarket to compete against the 5 and have the ATS compete against the 3. In the past the CTS tried to appeal to both by sitting in no mans land between the two segments. Having two dedicated cars going into two different segments is a much better approach than the "jack of all trades..." approach they were trying with the CTS in the past.

Cadillac sales up almost 40% this month, and that with the CTS sales dropping as the current version winds down. The company is on a roll

Carefull with this, Cadillac also had to use HUGE incentives on the ATS to achieve this number. Can't give cars away for ever and stay profitable.

And BMW doesn't have HUGE and consistent incentives on their 3 series??? What...????

It's nice to see that Cadillac is gunning for the Germans but lets hope they don't get inspired by the Germans' ludicrous pricing....

As much I would love for there to be a coupe; you may be over the sport sedan but the market is over coupes.

When I see a comment like yours I expect to see the driver giving the photographer the one-finger Hello sign, but I don't see it this time.

As a long time Cadillac fan I'm happy to see them back! Next year will be a great year with the new CTS Escalade and ATS V. Plus the new flagship that will bow soon.

There is not enough info yet but the ATS has proven it can play with the German big 3 and Lexus so I don\'t doubt the V series will go toe to toe with the M3 .

As much as I'd want a V8 I think Cadillac is gonna stay on par with the Germans by going toe to toe meaning the ats-v will probably have a tt v6 to match the new M3 turbo I6. And from a marketing stand point if they drop the Ls7 in here ppl would think the ATS-v has a bigger motor than the big brothe cts-v. 7.0vs 6.2 s/c

We all know the ATS V is going to be the car with better numbers. As for refinement, it depends on the motor they use, if its the twin turbo V6 its going to be butter. The New V8's could also be considered, especially if they need more places to stuff the new 7.0 liter Z06 motor. This would be the ideal engine bay. Lets hope.
