For the first time, Audi will offer a proper four-door version of its compact A3 in the United States. And while we'll be getting a sneak peek at the new sedan as part of this month's New York Auto Show festivities, Audi sources have confirmed to Autoblog that the car will officially make its debut at the Shanghai Motor Show in April.

As we reported in our first drive of the European-spec A3, the US model will be offered in both four- and five-door trims, powered by both gasoline and diesel powerplants. On the gas front, a new 1.8-liter turbo-four will be found underhood, as will a massaged version of the 2.0-liter forced-induction four we all know and love. The diesel engine will be the same 2.0-liter TDI four that we currently enjoy in the A3.

Stay tuned for official details and images later this month.

If you look carefully, you can see the outline of Corolla as well. Damn, Audi is on roll these days. /s

If they are already showing us the LEDs then what is the point of the rest of the camo?

So, it'll be the Audi version of the Jetta, as opposed to an Audi version of a Golf.

Did we really need a spy shot of an Audi sedan? As chic as they are, there's zero surprise what this will look like.

Looks the exact same size as the last gen A4 - so I have to ask, why.

Will they finally put AWD on the diesel? That was a big mistake for them to leave out on the last A3 hatch, could have been my dream car.

Are you sure about those motors? I hadn't heard about the 1.8l gas engine coming here. What about the 3.2l V6?

because this way they can start this sedan at $30K+ and add to the A4\'s MSRP so that by comparison it will look like a deal, when in fact all they\'ll do is hike up prices on the A4 and use the current A4 MSRP for the A3. BMW is going to do the same thing when they introduce the 320 here. It maybe $1,000 cheaper than the current 328, but the 328 will cost you $3K more. They know exactly what they\'re doing.

Dynamically, I bet this will run rings around the CLA. Of course, the CLA will probably outsell it in the US 5:1.

They don't fit in an A4's back either, so what makes you think they'll fit in the A3's?
