This morning, Lamborghini has announced the newest member of its supercar family, the stunningly sexy Aventador LP700-4 Roadster. With more than 1,300 Aventador coupes sold to date, Lamborghini believes it will find strong demand for the convertible version.

The Roadster's roof is a two-piece affair, made from carbon fiber and weighing in at just over 13 pounds. The roof pieces must be removed by hand, though the process is said to be fairly simple, and there's room to store both in the front luggage compartment. The topless Aventador also employs a powered rear window and a front-mounted wind deflector (which can also be removed and stowed) to allow drivers the freedom to choose how exposed to the elements they'd like to be.

Naturally, Lamborghini has done everything it could to keep performance unchanged from that of the fixed-roof sibling. Like the coupe, the Aventador Roadster makes use of a 6.5-liter, 700-horsepower V12 modulated by a seven-speed single-clutch paddleshift gearbox. 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 3.0 seconds, while top speed is a massive 217 mph (350 kilometers per hour).

In its press release about the car (below) Lamborghini tells us that the Aventador Roadster will be offered for sale at 300,000 euro plus tax ($381,000 at current exchange rates – expect official US pricing to be revealed soon, though), and will be available for order worldwide. Phone-number-sized bank account holders should get their checkbooks ready.

The ultimate open-air experience:
Automobili Lamborghini presents the new
Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster

Sant'Agata Bolognese, November 12th, 2012 - Automobili Lamborghini presents the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster, the most exciting series production Lamborghini ever built and the new benchmark in the world of open-top luxury super sports cars.

On the heels of the successful coupé introduced in Summer 2011, and with over 1,300 units already delivered to customers, the House of the Raging Bull is now offering the convertible version of the Aventador, a vehicle that perfectly balances the ultimate driving experience with the ultimate in sports car sophistication.

The new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster can immediately be recognized by the unique profile of its upper area, which extends along newly designed geometric lines from the removable roof to the engine hood.

The Roadster's design is the result of a careful study into the best way of combining performance, elegant style, ease of use and a driving experience that excites all five senses.

The two-piece roof is made entirely from carbon fiber using various technologies such as RTM and Forged Composite®. These technologies guarantee maximum aesthetic performance and stiffness although each component is extremely light, weighing less than 6 kg. These two parts are removable, easy to handle, and being lightweight and simple to attach, can be stored in the front luggage compartment. In just a few seconds the Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster can be admired in all its luxurious beauty.

The rear pillar has been redesigned to offer total support for the removable roof, accommodate an automatic protection system for passengers, and provide the engine compartment with ample ventilation.

Right at first glance, it's noticeable that the engine hood on the Roadster differs from the hood on the coupé because of its central "spinal column" with two pairs of hexagonal windows connected at the sides as if they were hyper-tech armor plates. Their purpose is to cool the engine, drain off rain water properly and, of course, allow the beauty of the V12 power unit to be admired.

The driver of the Aventador Roadster and his passenger can decide for themselves how intensely they would like to enjoy the driving experience. The powered rear windshield not only influences the flow of air in the vehicle, but also controls the experience of the sound from the twelve-cylinder engine. The wind deflector, on the other hand, delivers almost complete calm inside the car, even at high speed. It rests on the front windshield frame and can likewise be stored in the luggage compartment when not in use.

The Aventador Roadster is also equipped with door glasses with chamfered edges, which always ensure a perfect fit into the hard-top seal, and underline the sharp side profile of the car.

The body of the new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster sports a two-tone finish, as the windshield pillar, the two roof sections and the rear window area up to the "fins" are painted in gloss black. The visual effect is that of a completely open vehicle with sleek lines combining perfectly balanced sportiness and elegance.

The range of colors available for the Roadster has been supplemented with a very light, metallic blue color, Azzuro Thetis, whose tone varies with the angle of the light. This color recalls the shade of the extraordinarily beautiful 1968 Miura Roadster, and both highlights and reinforces the lines of the vehicle by adding strength and dynamism.

Even the interior has a new look. The use of leather called Sabbia Nefertem highlights the superb hand-made craftsmanship of the upholstery from Sant' Agata Bolognese and is a perfect match for the exterior in Azzuro Thetis. Finally, the new Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster also features new Dione 20"/21" rims with a daring, aggressive look. Crafted in light forged aluminum, they lower the weight of the vehicle by 10 Kg as compared with the standard set of rims.

The new Aventador LP700-4 Roadster boasts record performance. It accelerates from 0 to 100 Km/h in only 3 seconds flat and has a maximum speed of some 350 km/h. These numbers, combined with a drive train featuring a centrally located, 6.5 liter aspirated V12 generating 700 hp, an ISR 7-speed gearbox and push-rod suspension make the new Aventador Roadster a totally unique super sports car with no direct competition.

Of course the Roadster's V12 also includes a cylinder deactivation system when the engine is working at partial capacity, while the innovative, instant Stop & Start system includes high-performance capacitors known as supercaps to awaken the engine. This is an absolute first in the super sports car segment.

In short, the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 is an exceptional vehicle for its design, with its build concept based on a carbon fiber monocoque and superior dynamic behavior resulting from advanced technological solutions: the Roadster goes even further by adding a dimension of extraordinary exhilaration and excitement that only a blue sky filled with the music of a Lamborghini 12-cylinder engine can provide.

The new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster is a dream that can be realized and ordered at any Lamborghini dealer in the world for the price of 300,000 euro, excluding taxes.

I like the color combo very much....just wondering why they photographed the vehicle in what seems to be a high school gym entrance. I guess the ladder was left in the edge of one shot for style? And the covered up black boxes in the side view. Just strange choices, plus keeping the florescent light glare in another shot. Just things as a photographer I noticed, and I can understand restrictions, but I would presume Lambo has an unlimited budget for such things.

I really have nothing to add to this conversation other than: "This car is stunning" and "I feel poor".

SamIAm, ZR1 is a plastic POS, and its old news. Let me guess, name calling will change that? PTW at its best. M

Wow, Sam called some bloggers "eurotrash". Nice. I do not like Smartcars and Scion IQs, but I do not call people that like them Eurotrash. Secondly, Corvette ZR1 has the same interior. A very dated interior. The ZR1 is like an aftermarket car. To compare a ZR1 to an Aventador is like comparing a slightly above average chick to an well-above average exotic model. ZR1 is ok, but if you have the money and you are heavy into detail, heritage, performance and the "wow-factor", why settle for less. When people see a regular corvette to a ZR1 they do not say "Oh my god, that is the ZR1." They simply say, "oh thats a corvette".But when people see Lamborghinis their reactions are more like, "Oh $hit, OH MY GOD, WOW, DAMN, THAT IS SEXY AS HELL." and my personal favorite "Whoa, What is that?". And if they are next to an auto-enthusiast they will be told, "That's a Lambo"

I was in the Lambo shop when someone started one of these up. OMG!!! I grew up with American Muscle - those sounded "mean" - or "Tough" if you like. The Lambo sounds outright vicious. Intimidating as hell. I WANT ONE!

Can someone please tell me how this car is $300,000 better than a Corvette? I mean yea it's a Lamborghini, but most of the money is going towards the name only.... this car got in last in a Driver's Car Competition and has NO MANUAL! But watch the Eurotrash crew (Miss Tina Dang, Lachmund, Merc1, NightFlight) come defend it.... pity.

V12, ~300 more hp and torque, push rod suspension, carbon fiber monocoque, composites throughout (as opposed to the corvette's plastic), extensive aerodynamics research, much fast 0-60 time and a much, much better build quality... I'm not saying any corvette is a bad car, but lets be realistic here for a second SamIAm, the Aventador blows it out of the water because GM never intended for the vette to compete with anything in that price range

Yep beware of all of us. If you can't see how this car completely outclasses anything Corvette then there is nothing anyone can say to you. The Corvette is a fast piece of plastic junk compared to this. Plastic interior and shitbox seats and all. M

Vette might get you the local hot girl at the local bar, Lambo will get you the Victoria's Secret supermodel. Do you need any more explanation?

So all of that hype to explain its just a targa top? Like the base C6 Vette? And I'm still not a big Aventador fan. Technically speaking it outshines the Murcie in every way, but it just seems so cold and unemotional. This "roadster" feels the same way to me. And yes I've heard/seen the Aventador in person.

I love how morons who have never driven or even sat in one of these can call it cold and unemotional. Why dont you try to regurgitate some other cynical nonsense you've heard from jaded auto journos?

I love how idiots think that you have drive something to have an opinion on it. Its a car. I can see it, touch it, feel it. I'm not a big fan of the exterior design and definitely not impressed with a $400,000 car that has a targa roof that you must remove by hand and place in the trunk. Surely you absolute genius like yourself can figure out that someone does not have to drive a vehicle to realize those points.

          @Moreno636
OH STFU...do you know how dumb you sound right now??? "See it, Touch it" this gives you a clue as to the emotion and feeling it gives you? Really? So seeing it and touching it, lets you know how that V12 sounds behind your head at 6500rpm? It lets you feel what the wind and air feels like when the top is down and your blasting down a freeway at 130mph? You can feel the grip of the AWD and pushrod suspension as it pulls you around an apex? Just STFU....you got caught spewing the same crap you read from some hack at Motortrend or Car and Driver and you're trying to sound knowledgable about something you havent EVEN SEEN OR TOUCHED in real life. Clown.

Go rent one for a few thousand dollars, there are a few places that offer us regular guys the chance to drive these types of cars, its not cheap, but think of it as an incredible one time affair.
