Lotus has rolled out a new trailer for the company's Exige S. Those who are easily tired by flashy cuts and metaphor may want to skip this one, as it pits the supercharged V6 hellion against a boxer. No, not a Porsche or Subaru boxer engine. An actual boxer, as in, a pugilist.

Our brows may be a bit too low to understand the concept at work here, but we appreciate a good advertisement when we see one. With plenty of tire smoke, lots of doughnuts and dramatic shots of the black body work on the Exige S, the clip hits all the right notes.

The Lotus Exige S packs 346 horsepower in a 2,380-pound track-bred package. The supercharged 3.5-liter V6 mounted mid-ship delivers 295 pound-feet of torque. Given that the old Exige S could clip off 0-60 mph runs in the 4.1 second range, we wouldn't be surprised to hear that the 2012 model can do the deed in the high three-second range. Hit the jump to take a look at the video.

I don't have problems with metaphors. We see them all the time in many ads. But they need to be done right. This one, however, is just ridiculously stupid.

I was totally waiting for the lotus to hit him at the 0:41 mark and have him fly over the bonnet in an exaggerated comical fashion.

Yeap, if those two were to face each other in real combat, yeah, the lotus would be banged up after the hit, but it would certainly win!

Boxer = blacktop. After the "road" threw everything it had at the Lotus...the Lotus fought back and laid it out.

not to be cruel or anything, but was anyone else expecting the Exige to actually hit the boxer, even just a little bit?

wake me when the get rid of the toyoda powerplant. how about using a sti 2.5 boxer engine. lower COG, lighter weight, and it dosent sound like a boring family saloon.

That Toyota power plan suits the car very well. Have you seen the current Exige or Elise on a track?
