Ford Fiesta ST spy shots – Click above for high-res image gallery

Much like its big brother – the FocusFord's B-segment Fiesta will get a sportier ST version in the coming years. We've seen spy shots of what is clearly a tuned up Fiesta out testing, complete with a front-mount intercooler, larger wheels and a performance exhaust.

Autocar now reports that when the Fiesta ST launches near the end of 2012, it will be powered by Ford's 1.6-liter EcoBoost inline-four, cranking out somewhere around 180 horsepower. The front-drive hatch will likely use a six-speed manual transmission to send its power to the wheels, and with revised suspension geometry, beefier brakes and a host of interior upgrades likely on tap, we expect the ST to be a worthy competitor for pint-sized hot hatches like the Mini Cooper S.

Ford has confirmed that the Focus ST will be sold here in the United States, but the fate of the Fiesta ST is still undecided. Naturally, consider our fingers crossed.

      Holy torquesteer, Batman!
Having driven the Ford Focus RS and Renault Mégane RS, cars with over 250 BHP (Mégane gets dynoed at 270...), the torque steer is almost gone, if not entirely.

I still prefer my 4WD at 270 BHP, but FWD is getting quite awesome. Always has been!

@Sandok FWD sucks, the Quaife and the RevoKnuckle of the Focus RS don't produce better traction than all-wheel drive, that is reality!

If it is FWD, I don't want 250-300 horses under the hood.

Ford can produce also lighter and cheaper all-wheel drive systems like Audi, VW or Subaru. Why not?

Just the TSX I daily drive. A tad more than 180hp, but a lot less torque. Still get torque steer. Though you're probably right, with the right suspension tuning, torque steer should be a relatively simple problem to minimize under 200hp.

I don't know what 180hp FWD cars you're driving, but having test driven a Mini Cooper S, driven a final generation Celica GT-S, a current Civic Si, Golf GTI, the Cobalt SS/SC that I own, and many other FWD cars with more than 180hp going to the wheels, I've never once encountered torquesteer in any of them.

I had torque steer in my Jetta GLI :(

      Do want.

        Do want it with AWD.

      I don't want it.

I'm waiting for the Fiesta RS with a 300 hp EcoBoost and 6 speed manual and AWD, so this is a true rally car!

Fiesta ST is an anagram for "I Fastest".

(anagrams don't always tell the truth, but I still hope they sell this in the US.)

This is something I would seriously consider for a daily driver. It should be very fun to drive and let me keep my WRX set up for the track. Here's hoping Ford lets this one loose on the U.S.!

If it had torque vectoring then it'd be an instant winner.

      WTF!?

Why do we have to wait until the END of 2012 to get this, IF we get it?

I am starting to get pissed at all the delays.
I feel what you're saying! I wish it was out now too!
What delays? The standard Fiesta only launched this past year. This makes perfect sense for Ford. After being on the market for two years, they can release the ST version and get their car plastered in all the auto mags again.
I know, it sucks, but from a business perspective, it doesn't make sense for Ford to have too many special projects going at the moment. They have a lot of debt to pay back and they know the only way to do it is move A LOT of low--manufacturing cost, volume sellers...which is what they're doing. Once that debt is substantially reduced, I'm sure we'll start seeing some more performance-specific models.

with 180 hp i think bigger brakes are unnecessary.
I can't understand this. Ford is just underpowering ST again. While Clio having 192 bhp and very good brakes, the new one is just 30 bhp more powerful than the old one which I have.
I wish the RS version to come, with 220 bhp and LSD.
"There won't be an RS Fiesta. There has never been one, nor is Ford planning on it."

Except for the RS Turbo mk3 Fiestas - right?
Even better if they'd make it 220 hp and AWD if "RS" still means "Rallye Sport"
