X Games 15 Crowns New Rally King – Click above for high-res image gallery

We're not going to say we told you so – because we didn't – but we are going to go ahead and say we're totally not shocked that former Indy 500 champ Kenny Brack just won some X Games gold. After all, we're still a touch weak in the knees from our little ride along with him and his atomic weasel Ford Fiesta rally car last Thursday. First thing's first: what a coup for Ford. Beating Subaru at X Games is like beating Muhammad Ali in the 1960s. It just doesn't happen very often. Turns out that the big jump that had everyone at Ford a little more worried than they were publicly letting on just wasn't an issue. The hopped up Fiestas did great. In fact all three Ford drivers (Brack, Foust and Deegan) made it to the semifinals, along with Subaru's Travis Pastrana.

What a great intro to the sport of rallying for Kenny Brack. It looked as if Foust was going to beat Brack heads up, but then Tanner spun out and Brack was pitted against Pastrana and his Subaru in the final. Pastrana is ahead after one lap and everyone had pretty much concluded that he was about to win his umpteenth X Game event. But at the start of the second lap, Pastrana goes wide, spins, hits the back left side of his car against a barrier and can't continue. Ten years after winning the the Indy 500, Kenny Brack wins X Games Rally gold. Good job, Kenny.

Sweet, Win on Sunday sell on Monday....

Oh wait I can't buy Fiesta let alone an AWD Fiesta in the US?
      Smells like NASCAR.

Oh well back to the Subaru dealership.

I hope Ford and Mitsubishi would get with it and make a run at Subaru as far as Rally America is concerned. Anything to help foster growth in the US and Canada would be a huge plus to all of us. I'm no Subaru hater as that is my daily driver, but competition is great!

can we say marketing ploy :D

LOL @ all the Ford hate in here. The Fiesta Rally car is badass, period.

Now go cry about it in the corner and be sure not to let any of the tears disturb the dust collecting on your overpriced Tamiya WRX models...

I agree that the Fiesta rally cars are sweet.

I'd still rather have a WRX than a Fiesta though. Let me know when you can buy an AWD Turboed Fiesta.

I'll agree that Rally seemed a bit subdued this year, but the rest of the X-games was pretty intense! People were definitely trying their best and a number of people ate it pretty hard.

Back to the cars, it seems that the hatches fly more level than the sedans. Makes sense as they have the extra weight of the hatches over the rear.

Okay, so bite me for not being completely on top of the sport, but did the second impact kill the engine in the Subaru?
The car was wedged across the course, literally jammed between the two sets of k-rails.

Though it's a bummer subaru didn't win against its first 'real' competition, congrats to ford. Subaru looks damned foolish for the 'come out and play, other manufacturers' comments of last year. Reminds me a bit of Audi and LeMans--Big slice of Humble Pie.

It would be great to see a pair of fiestas campaigned in the rally america series, but I can see the financial savvy of playing only one high-exposure 'gig' per year like the x-games.

One thing that has always bugged me about rally, specifically WRC was that you can take a car, strip it down to just the body, throw a bunch of stuff in it and pass it off as a Pugeot, Citroen, Focus, etc when the cars rarely have 2-liter turbo engine options and never have an AWD option. For next season, the only 2 'real' rally cars, the Evo and STi, are gone.

I am very happy to see Ford win. This has brought me back to considering a Ford again. I actually walked into a Ford showroom and inquired about the new Fiesta. First time in 6 years, I am considering a Ford Car

Anyone see Block's door open in the quarter final? that was a pretty awesome in car cam of him shutting the door and steering at the same time haha...but this was surprisingly the first time I've seen a rally car at x-games..and I really liked the idea. definately something worth going to in the future.

Congrats to Ford. I wish my F350 would jump like that. :)

wow, you can tell how lame this xgames was compared to all before it when they make a big deal about the bumper falling off.
Last year and the year before it was cars flipping, rolling, colliding!
Pastrana even finished a race with only 3 wheels! pshh... a bumper!
True, it just seemed like everything was toned down. The jump was definatley smaller and none of the drivers even seemed to push it.
And the way Block pulled out of the race, and how Travis ended seemed...if not just lame...rigged
Hopefully Xgames isn't losing it's Xtreme.
        Maybe it's the economy?

They're TV announcers, they're paid to make everything seem as exciting as possible, not to say "boy, this year is a snoozer".
        You are darn right.

I remember McRae rolling over then moving on and no one said this was the car's fault...

So now, just because the Fiesta lost the rear bumper after a hard jump is a problem of quality, ahhh, come on, give me a break.
