We're not going to say we told you so – because we didn't – but we are going to go ahead and say we're totally not shocked that former Indy 500 champ Kenny Brack just won some X Games gold. After all, we're still a touch weak in the knees from our little ride along with him and his
What a great intro to the sport of rallying for Kenny Brack. It looked as if Foust was going to beat Brack heads up, but then Tanner spun out and Brack was pitted against Pastrana and his Subaru in the final. Pastrana is ahead after one lap and everyone had pretty much concluded that he was about to win his umpteenth X Game event. But at the start of the second lap, Pastrana goes wide, spins, hits the back left side of his car against a barrier and can't continue. Ten years after winning the the Indy 500, Kenny Brack wins X Games Rally gold. Good job, Kenny.

i would have like it better if ford actually won instead of by default but a win is a win.
maybe this will mean a rally version of the fiesta for the public? that would be killer...

why not the LS2LS7? 11:26PM (8/02/2009)
Ha, no. They won't even make an AWD version.

Pastrana makes a driving error through a corner and you call the win a default?
What about Brack's jump with the hard landing that tore up his car and put him behind? If Pastrana had won would that have been by default, or is one supposed to play this game only against Ford?
@LS2LS7 Thanks for the insider information about what Ford may one day bring to the Fiesta.

If Ford doesn't capitalize on this, through OEM upgrade mods (and hotter variants) for the Fiesta, then they'll have completely missed the boat and shot themselves in the foot... FTL!
This Fiesta rocks!
FORD: build streetable variants FTW!

have you ever watched a rally race? winners are determined in so many instances by other driver's MISTAKES and random luck (from competitor mechanical failures, a larger rock in one's path, etc.). To say Ford's win is diminished by Pastrana's fluke is completely moronic. This is how these races go. Just being in the running to compete for the win says a lot.

It doesn't matter where and when an opponent messes up on the track, if it's in lap 1 or lap 1000 it's the same result, loss. So Ford won in the same light as if the competitor knocked themselves out from the start...
Win = Win - It's not like the judges said "oh the other guy passed the line first but we're gonna give it to Ford...
Ya know?

Completely outside of the debate over the definition of the word 'win' or any variation thereof, Brack earned it. He ran some of the cleanest lines I've seen in a rallycross event. After his first run in qualifying, I couldn't help but notice how similar his driving style is to SEB's. I hope he pursues rallying more seriously...he could do quite well for himself.

Still going to say: FORD WE NEED A 3-DOOR! :D

It would have been better if those Fiestas were closer to the stock cars like the Subaru and EVO were.

Subaru would have had a chance if they had drivers that could actually drive on pavement... versus Xtreme drivers that insisted on drifting the whole time. Brack can actually drive fast and clean. It did help his cause, though, to have a "ringer".
why not the LS2LS7? 11:31PM (8/02/2009)
Are you referring to Pastrana? He's raced full seasons in Rally America for a couple years now and he raced a little SCCA Pro Rally when it existed. So isn't just coming in and try to to act extreme.
wvuquentin 6:11AM (8/03/2009)
Why not - I was referring to basically everyone but Pastrana. Pastrana was leading prior to his issues. I'm well aware of his rally history. I'm a recovering decade long Suby addict. The early heats were where the Fiestas looked so much faster than the Imprezas. All these heats you saw the ass of the Impreza hanging out around the turns while the Fiestas kept tight lines.

Yup, those scoobys sure are close to stock... right down to the seam welded body and roll cage, sequential gear box, completely different suspension, HUEG turbo, completely different ECU and components, brakes, tires... yup... so much closer to stock than the Fiesta's...

I had to watch that live. Watching Brack drag his bumper for much of the course was hilarious.

Oh absolutely...hey Built Ford Tough right? No congrats to KB and Ford team.
I'm really happy to see them Ford as a company turn into a vibrant and a youthful company rather than bureaucracy driven pension company which just happens to make cars managed by old boring executives whose idea of fun is dinner and a movie and drive around in an over-sized fat boat.
I want that Fiesta damn it, in ST spec...if we shall ever get it here in US. Please no gray interior with cheap plastic...then I'll be happy.
hector000 11:46PM (8/02/2009)
also why were the STi and EVOs the only cars to get reporters put in the passengers seat? such a pro ford event and they still only won by default.
subarus FTW

What show were you watching? In each race, the reporters were either in both cars or neither. In Deegan's semi-final when he had no turbo (and power) the reporter got out of the Fiesta and so did the reporter in the Subaru to keep them even.
Did you see something different then that?
Farmboy 1:19AM (8/03/2009)
Congrats to Ford. I wish my F350 would jump like that. :)

Kenny Brack just kicked everyone's butts on the pavement. The Subaru guys kept insisting on drifting the entire thing and any real car guy knows that though the coolest way around drifting is not the fastest way around a track. I was however sad when Travis spun and just gave up. What ever happen to putting on a show for the fans? The X Games in general were a let down this year. Though the last few years have spoiled me.
