REPORT: Alfa MiTo GTA merely postponed, not canceled

Following earlier reports that Alfa Romeo had axed plans to produce the MiTo GTA, the Italian automaker has reportedly clarified that the project has not been canceled completely, just postponed.
The MiTo GTA was unveiled in concept form at this year's Geneva Motor Show. At the time, Alfa said the car would be produced and on the market before the end of the year. Packing a 240hp 1.8-liter turbo four, the GTA was set to revive the company's performance badge with a package priced to undercut the Mini JCW. When harsh economic conditions hit – and Fiat started snapping up assets left and right – the hot hatch program reportedly took a hit. According to sources within the company, though, the automaker is still keen on getting it done... eventually. Certainly, that won't happen before the end of the year.

Very good news! That's one small car I'd love to see in production. I'm more of a fan of full-size luxury cars but this little thing is very unique.. I'm glad to hear it's not off the charts for good...

Hopefully the delay will align nicely with Alfa's return to the states.

This needs to come to the US. I'll keep saving until it does.

Ehhhh, its a girly looking car that would get its ass kicked by Cobalt SS not even mentioning STI or Evo. Don't get me wrong, the side profile of the car and rear are cool looking, but the front (pig snout) and the famous Alfa reliability (yeah yeah I know they "improved"), ehhhh I'll pass.

Exactly what makes it girly in your mind? Is it the hatchback? Is it because it isn't 6' tall like a Challenger or weigh over 4,000 lbs? You have some serious outdated concepts of genre association.
Also, to mention this car in the same breath as the Cobalt SS or Evo shows a complete lack of understanding of the niches these cars appeal to. The Cobalt, as good as it is, is a poor-man's Evo, minus the AWD, the cool factor and any semblance of style or distinctiveness. An Evo would eat it for lunch. No one would ever cross shop the two. No one interested in any of these cars would cross shop the other, period. You might as well compere the Alfa to a Veyron or a Hummer.
And I chuckle as you bring up reliability when mentioning any car from GM, a company long known for mediocre engineering, passive quality standards and inferior materials, which led it to bankruptcy lately. Granted, they have redeemed themselves somewhat as of late, but how many recalls and issues has the Camaro had already?...Pleeeze....

Oh good because I was looking to get into one of these as my next car. I think I have room in the garage next to my Focus RS.... pfft.

I have a feeling this will end up a lot like the PT Cruiser: The more you see it, the uglier itll get. The good thing is it will never look half as hideous as the PT
