VIDEO: First Kia Koup commercial hits the interwebs

Click above to watch the video after the jump
Kia came strong with some good looking hardware when it introduced the production Koup in New York. The Koup is a stylish, fun-looking two-door that will likely draw the attention of the much coveted younger car buyer demographic. To seed the minds of said youngins, Kia is embarking on the prerequisite pre-launch ad blitz that starts with a single commercial.
Beyond the jump is the first commercial offering to tout the wares of the all-new Kia Koup. While the car may look ready for action, we're not quite so sure about this 30 second spot. The theme? Two. As in two doors. We kinda thought that calling the Forte-variant the Koup was more than enough of a hint for customers that it was, in fact, a coupe. On the bright side, the Koup looks as good in moving pictures as it does on the New York Auto Show. Hit the jump to judge from yourself, and let us know what you think of the ad in the comments. Thanks for the tip, Christian!

Finally, the koreans save some money from all the "junk" product they sell in the US and hire some retired German designer to make their "own design".

@airswingman
You my friend needs some education on the world of automotive design and its profession. The Camaro designer? Korean. The Genesis Coupe designer? American. The Ferrari Enzo designer? Japanese. Mazda's recent "fluid" design language starter? German.
You get my point?

It's an attractive enough vehicle if it does seem to be aping the Civic. And being a kia, it likely won't be able to be beat for the price.

Funny, I saw this commercial being filmed on North Wacker Drive in Chicago over Memorial Day Weekend. The car looked pretty cool, though!

I saw the TV crew in Chicago in May on my way to the movie theater. They also had a blue Koup parked there and were using a black Mercedes M-class to shoot the commercial.
It is a very sleek looking car.

There's a longer version of this commercial that featuresd both the red and blue Koups. Also, IMHO the Koup looks better in person than in pics.

What a POS failure of a vehicle. JUNK.

You haven't actually driven one before...

What a great-looking car. The Forte is already a great-looking car with fantastic value for money... the coupe just adds an extra dash of style.
I'd drive one in either coupe or sedan form. Very impressive, Kia!

If the car were black or grey instead of bright red, it would be incognito. This car is basically a Civic coupe.
Now, I might be less scornful of that, if not for the fact that every car they build is entirely derivative of some other car. There is nothing original in their entire lineup. I don't respect that kind of design philosophy (or lack thereof).

I understand where you are coming from, but in the budget class, something good looking is worth way more than something original. Its not about trying to be the eccentric rich dude driving his Superbird to a Ferrari then to Morgan. Its about looking as decent and non offending as possible. This is meant for the masses where they want to budget and can't afford for the originality of a Bangle design or the potential ugliness of trying to be different.
RPM 12:42PM (6/17/2009)
Leaf, that criticism just isn't true. The Kia Soul is original, and I would argue much better than its competition. I think its only the Koup and sedan version that look like the Civic, the rest of the lineup isn't copying.
cdwrx 12:50PM (6/17/2009)
If I really wanted originality, I would buy one of those cars that looked like a slightly more angular version of my old 200SX SE-R. What did they call that car, an RSX?

First off, the Forte's front really looks nothing like the Civic (has a much more European look to it than the Civic's "r*cer" look) - and the rest of the Forte is entirely diff. from the jellybean (ughh) shape the Civic has.
And speaking of derivative -
you mean like how Honda...
made the Civic’s rear to look like the A4’s (esp. the shape of the taillights);
lifted the idea of placing the taillights on the D pillar of the CR-V from Volvo;
basically turned the new Pilot, w/ it's blocky rear/thick C and D pillars into a Jeep;
basically aped the Prius w/ the design of the new Insight; and
lifted the front of the 2008 Sonata, the roofline and Hofmeister kink in the C pillar from BMW, and rear design from Saturn for the current Accord?

My aunt had a Kia and it needed the front end replaced after just 16343 miles, then later on a rear brake seized up on the highway and the car spun out of control and she hit the guardrail! Go right ahead and buy that Korean trash ! Maybe they will pay you back with a nuclear missile in your back yard !!!! LOL

Please get your geography and politics right... South Korea are our allies. It's North Korea that have the psycho dictator bent on having a nuclear arsenal.
