Mercedes-Benz is hard at work on the replacement for its mid-range E Class line-up, as these spy shots snapped in snow-capped Finland suggest, cunningly camouflaged in white paint to blend in with its surroundings.
As we already know, Mercedes is ditching the CLK nomenclature to go back to the E Class coupe nameplate, bringing the two-door closer to the sedan and wagon variants it will join. Previewed by the ConceptFASCINATION at the recent Paris Motor Show, the production E Class coupe is expected to debut in just a few months in Geneva, with cabrio and AMG versions to follow in Frankfurt in the Fall. And if the spy shots are any indication, Mercedes looks to be running on schedule in true German style.

This coupe handily outclasses the new E sedan, if for no other reason than the elegant headlight assemblies, compared to the sedan's Dali take on Chiclets gum. Still I wonder whether the marketplace demands ever larger coupes. Many of the elegant new coupe bodies - A5/S5, Accord, Challenger - are simply too big and (nose) heavy to come across as agile sports cars.

i saw one of these yesterday all taped up and wasn't sure exactly if it was the new clk or not..after checking a glimpse of the front end it was a benz for sure and looks very much like these pictures. not really a fan of the rear taillights, it does look like a hyundai like someone else said

Looks so much better as a coupe, but it looks like a Chinese rip-off of the current E class in the sedan form... weird. I still think CLK should have been kept, though. But they do have wayyy too many models, so maybe ditching the CLK name may mean some more name-killing will come in the future. Definitely not a bad thing.

Sonata? What about Lexus IS? That would be amusing -- for almost two decades, Lexus LS cars were (admittedly better-built) visual copies of Mercedes S-class models. Now, have the tables turned -- or is Mercedes wanting to see what Lexus would do once they started copying them? Merc is also splitting the rectangular headlamps.

How does anyone know that this is not the next CLK? That is what the car has always been, a 2dr E class that comes in all the same trims. Did Benz say that they were discontinuing the CLK?

        Let me know!

tail lights reminded me of a sonata.

It would be somewhat funny, but not surprising if the tailights looked similar to the Hyundai Sonata.

Will this finally be actually ON the E-Class sedan/wagon platform though? For what they charge, it should be.
