Kids argue over all sorts of things. We're sure that if you stood around a school yard for long enough, well... you may get picked up by the cops. But not before you hear a couple of kids arguing over something as rediculous as, "What's faster, the Batmobile or a race car?"
Until recently, it would've seemed like a pointless question. But after others like "What's faster, a Lamborghini or a fighter jet?" have already been answered, Toyota decided to have a go at it and brought the Batmobile to Silverstone during the run-up to this past weekend's British Grand Prix. We've got the video footage and high-resolution photos to prove it... just follow the jump or click on the thumbnails below.

dumb video. cool cars.
they cut the audio out when the batmobile and f1 car were side by side so that you can't tell the f1 car's near dead/stalling pace.

It is awesome that the thing is even truly driveable, let alone with working flaps etc...
Truly a cool vehicle... dumb video... cool vehicle.

Something tells me Stig was the culprit behind the wheel and avoided Hamilton's crash landing into Kubica's sandcastle.

I'm really disappointed by the video. I was expecting to see the Batmobile take a hot lap of the track.
jjpg2000 @ Jul 7th 2008 1:44PM
So where is the hot lap footage?
dynamicz @ Jul 7th 2008 1:52PM

If that piece of SUV-ish junk is supposed to be a Batmobile, then someone has to re-think the franchise. Batmobiles are sleek, sexy, and have a sultry presence. This thing looks like a kids' toy scaled-up full size. Gee . . . I wonder why?(!). I guess it's about marketing, folks, and after-the-movie toy sales!!!

I never realized it was so short until I saw those pit pictures.

The Batmobile is whatever Batman says it is. Ususally has a lot to do with who is drawing the comic at the time too. Frank Miller used a tank for a Batmobile also.
Pacman @ Jul 7th 2008 2:42PM
Actually this Batmobile makes way more sense than some of the others. If there *really* was a Batman I bet he would rather be driving around in a highspeed armored tankish all terrain vehicle than a limited function sports car. Did you watch Batman Begins? What sports car derived Batmobile could do the things this vehicle was required to do.
The Batmobile from the 60's TV show was simply stupid - (although cool looking) and had no basis in reality and was quite campy.
This version is as realistic as a comic book car can get. Utilitarian, and looks militaristic - exactly what an urban crime fighter would need.
BlackCanary @ Jul 7th 2008 3:19PM
ML - you make a good point that this is a major departure from the typical Batmobile. Batman has always had many vehicles and not just the Batmobile. I actually think this vehicle is cool but should be considered in addition to the Batmobile, like a Bat-Tank or something. I agree the Batmobile should be more svelt and car like to stay true to the Batman history. There have been countless iterations of the Batmobile but very few (there have been a couple) have a tank or SUV appearance.
s13hybrid @ Jul 7th 2008 4:15PM
I think this batmobile is probably the more realistic idea of a batmobile. Some of the things done in Batman Begins would not have been possible with a sportscar.
The sleekness is now taken over by the Lambo, and that bike thing (which looks cool). Besides that, do you see how low the roof of this thing is, I bet some sedans, not to mention SUVs, tower over this thing.
