The Ford Fiesta is one of the best-selling vehicles in the UK. But before it's replaced by the new model, the Blue Oval's British subsidiary isn't about to let it go out without a... well, we'd hardly call it a bang, but at least a last desperate plea for attention before it's retired.
The imaginatively named "Red" edition comes in any color, as long as it's – you guessed it – red. Colorado Red, to be specific, with a black-and-white checker-board roof and black accents on the mirror caps, door handles, moldings and roof spoiler. The special edition is based on the Fiesta Zetec S, powered by a "zesty yet thrifty" 1.6-liter four pushing out 100hp. Leather seats, 16" alloys, air-con and heated electric side-view mirrors round out the package, of which only 400 will be offered at a price of £13,000 to British customers who really should be waiting for the new Fiesta.

PRESS RELEASE
FORD ADDS STRIKING NEW FIESTA LIMITED EDITION
- New sporty Fiesta Zetec S Red special edition
- Black and white 'chequered flag roof' and Colorado red body paint
- Leather seats and privacy glass
- On sale now priced at £13,000 on-the-road
BRENTWOOD, Essex, 26 June, 2008 – The appeal of the exciting Ford Fiesta line-up continues to expand with the debut of a new sporty, feature-packed special edition – the Zetec S Red. Just 400 new Zetec S Red special editions, representing 10 per cent of all Zetec S models, will be available, priced at £13,000.
The "Red" edition follows the success of the popular radian yellow "Anniversary" and lime green "Celebration" models which sold out within weeks of their launch last year. Ford Fiesta has been in the top three best-selling vehicles in Britain every month this year with 42,895 models sold up to the end of May - almost 20 per cent of the British small car market.
With the zesty yet thrifty1.6-litre, 100PS petrol engine, Zetec S Red features Colorado red paintwork with chequered flag roof decal. Dark privacy glass on the rear windows and panther black features: door mirrors, door handles, bodyside mouldings, roof spoiler and tailgate handle, all add to the stylish look. Also standard are Quickclear® heated front windscreen, ebony leather seats, 16in alloy wheels, air conditioning and heated electrically-operated door mirrors.

""will be offered at a price of £13,000 to British customers who really should be waiting for the new Fiesta. ""
Another article about Ford, another lame, snide dig.
Why should they wait for the new one? Maybe they like the old version's styling better, or like this particular option group that won't be available on the new one, or need a new car right now and not in six months?
What is it with you AutoBlog folks and Ford?
Why even present news about Ford if you hate the Company so badly?

Hmm... little Euro hatchback with a checkered flag roof and a 1.6. Says "look, we can do it just like Mini!" to me.
1337 @ Jun 26th 2008 2:41PM
Or, "look, I can't afford a Mini, so I got this instead."
Yar @ Jun 26th 2008 2:19PM
Zesty? As in the skin of a citrus fruit?
martin @ Jun 26th 2008 2:24PM
they've already offered the same "special edition" in lime green and yellow before, i'd call that more "zesty" tbh lol.

Wow, a red edition! So they physically paint the Fiesta S red? Brilliant! While other companies waste their time and money to engineer a hatchback for performance, all Ford needed was a bit of red paint to build the ultimate pocket rocket.

1337: At £13K, this limited edition Fiesta costs more than a base Mini One and the same as a base Mini Cooper in the UK.

I dig this little guy. It looks so sporty!
Eric @ Jun 26th 2008 3:57PM
Does this pic remind anyone else of the "counterfeit Mini Cooper" add campaign from a few years back?

Lame styling on a pretty nice car.
Nathan @ Jun 26th 2008 6:36PM
Meh, give me the Fiesta ST any day. 150 hp 2.0 l in a light hatch, you're talking about a quick little car that will still be a relative fuel sipper.

Hope that Ford decides to let Americans have a sports version of the next-gen car ASAP. When gas is $6/gallon, this will be the new Mustang GT.

Why would we wait until the new version, it looks horrible! This new world-wide design language might work for you guys, but we like our cars the way they are.
My mate's got the green celebration and it's a very good car, nicely turned out, special markings and a limited edition. When the country is as small as ours, exclusivity is not something to be sniffed at.
Besides, the Mini just isn't 'cool' anymore, the brand has been raped by estate agents (realtors or whatever you call them) and 'chic' designers. This isn't copying it, its giving you a better alternative.
A car that costs c.$26,000 to you might seem a lot, but £13k for what is essentially an exclusively specced-up Zetec S is actually good value over here.
