We showed you an initial concept sketch of the Hennessey Venom GT last month, and the tuner best known for building ridiculously powerful Dodge Vipers has released another pair of pics, this time showing the mid-engine concept's rear with its retractable spoiler both up and down. In our previous post, we mentioned the undeniable likeness that the Venom GT shares with the Lotus Elise, which is also on display from this angle. We can also see just how extreme the car's design is, with a carbon fiber rear diffuser that we're sure isn't just for show and twin tail pipes that exit up high between the taillights. Carbon fiber skirts also peek out the sides below the massive air intake for the mid-mounted twin-turbo Viper engine and the extra-wide air extractor vents behind the front wheels. It seems clear to us that Hennessey intends to make a go of building its own exotic, just like Saleen did with the S7, and we hear two cars will be built to show potential customers in 2009. With a power-to-weight ratio of 2.7 lbs. per horsepower, a 2,700 lbs. curb weight, and an estimated 0-62 time of 2.5 seconds, we don't expect the Venom GT will be a tough sell.

Oh snap, I didn't think the first comment would be in reference to his shady business dealings. Agreed on the Elise resemblance.

They won’t get their cars from Lotus or Hennessy?
I think you may be confused with Unique in
Dallas. Hennessy are located in Houston.

Hennessey has business practices just as shady, if not more so than Unique, people send their Vipers off and don't get them back

Hennessey cant be serious with this thing...
Its a total boy racer dream car that some amateur artist threw together. The rear bumper looks heavy and is totally out of proportion with the rest of the car, wheels are uninspired and just about every other detail was lifted from the lotus. Why would anyone want this thing?
While Saleen has a great track record and strong ties to Ford when they built the S7 supercar - Henessey is known for shady dealings and hacking Vipers together. Looks like they are getting into the business of hacking up the lotus Exige - wonder where all the viper engines will come form?

Where's Aaron B Brown to tell us how the GT-R will beat this car on the track?

I'd rather have them worry about aerodynamics and having a free flowing exhaust than the pipes "looking right"; the car has enough eye-candy as it is. Besides, look at the crazy tail end of the Zonda Pagani and what that car can do.
Mobius_1 10:54AM (12/03/2007)
They should make this car more extreme!!! What is the point of another super performance car??!!! They should put wings on it so it flies!!! Lasers that pop out from the sides!!! And, chainsaws on the side of the car to really scare others!!!
Seriously though, this is a nice car, but let's have some originality.

....and stop comparing them to legit car builders like Saleen.
Saleen built the S7 practically from scratch to their own specifications. Hennessey will most likely hack apart a lotus Exige and shoe horn a viper V10 in - thats a HUGE difference.

Hmm, I don't know, guys. This looks way too much like an Exige Sport. I wonder if Lotus are OK with this.

Can Lotus sue because of the striking similarity to the Exige, or since the man who penned the Lotus penned this Hennessey make it null and void?

This isn't an Exige resemblance: this is an Exige in fact, with a different engine... I just can't see why they don't say it: to they think we're stupid?
ME 11:27AM (12/03/2007)
That has got to be based on the Elise/Exige.

Exhausts on top of the rear? I don't want to stay behind that car in a bike...

why not the LS2LS7? 11:43AM (12/03/2007)
Yep, it's clearly a picture of an Exige modified. So that makes this an Exige with a twin-turbo V10 in it. This just seems like a stupid idea to me. It won't have any balance, and even if they put absurd amounts of rubber in it, it still likely won't be able to use that power at low speeds. And at high speeds the short Exige wheelbase will mean it will be twitchy and unstable.
Seems like a recipe for stupid to me.

That's not just an Exige, it's almost a carbon copy of the Exige 300RR commissioned by Proton for GT/Endurance racing. It's even the same rims!
