In case you were interested: The unabridged official UAW-GM contract
For any of you with more than a passing interest in what actually settled the strike, the full contract between GM and the UAW has been posted. It's 24 pages of minutiae, from relocation allowances to health insurance and, of course, pay. It speaks for itself -- and for the UAW and GM. Some will find things to criticize, others to defend, the union. Either way, let the commenting begin.

Hamtramck, MI indicated plain as day for the Delta based VOLT in 2010 and an Opel Zafira like MPV in 2009.
Lordstown OH, getting a global Gamma (2010) and two Alpha models (2011).
Spring Hill TN lists an Epsilon based CUV in 2011.
Pontiac MI shows a C3XX pickup listed as full sized, light duty, and heavy duty in 2012.
I see several new platforms to be built in the US plants (Gamma, Alpha, and Zeta). Two new iterations of the next Delta platform (VOLT and MPV). A CUV to be based off of the Epsilon platform. Also a quick truck redesign in the c3XX trucks. I hope we see that 4.5 diesel in the trucks before that 2012 date. This list does not even account for redesigns of many models already in the pipeline like the Camaro and Impala. GM could do OK afterall if they can just get that "perceived quality" issue ironed out.

Seems like a foolish precedent to bring model/assembly strategy into negotiations with the UAW. You can count on Ron Middlefinger & Co. squeezing to gain even more control of fundamental GM business strategy in 4 years.

I don't see a Colorado/Canyon replacement in Shreveport (or any other UAW plant); Could this be moved off-shore? I thought that a replacement was being developed with Isuzu...

It's interesting how so many readers backed GM under the circumstances of the strike. There seem to be a lot of people who are rallying behind the well-being of GM and other domestics. A few years ago there would have been much more sympathy for the UAW as GM was a target for so much bashing. It's great that so many people believe in them now.

I don't think it's that "people believe in them now"... it's more that they believe that UAW is ruining them....the image of lazy overpaid people must have it's roots in some truth. It certainly did not appear from nowhere all of a sudden.

Unions don't protect jobs. Never have - never will. Doing the job better than the competition is the only protection. Further, the UAW fails to realize we live in a global economy now.
