Faster than getting a coffee at Starbucks: GT2 laps the 'Ring in 7:32

From its 530 hp, low curb weight of 3,179lbs, and 204 mph top speed, the 2008 Porsche GT2 is a supercar in every sense of the word. Heck, even its €189,496 sticker places Porsche's most potent 911 in the land of the F430 and the Gallardo. Where the Ferrari and the Lamborghini can't match up against the GT2 is where it matters most, on the track. Not just any track, either. We're talking about the track by which all great sports cars are judged... the vaunted 'Ring. Porsche claims the new GT2 can lap the legendary 14-mile course in a mere 7:32, which is 10 seconds better than even the 599 GTB. That ridiculous lap time puts the GT2's average speed at over 110mph, which is just sick. Must be the Titanium exhaust. The 2008 Porsche GT2 is scheduled to appear in Frankfurt in September, and the newest 997 will hit European streets in November.

I'm sure going to need cupholders to hold all the booze I will have to drink after selling my house to purchase this car

Yes it does. They are located between your legs.

Just live in the GT2.

You know what they say: You can live in your car but you can't race your house.

Somebody's gotta have a video of that run. Since it's going to take an act of an extremely benevolent and fun-loving God for me to ever have one of them, I at least want to see the vid of that run!

No one has video of it because it hasn't happened. I don't know why this even warranted an article on here since the number is just what Porsche says it 'should' do but has not done. That time would match the Carrera GT just FYI so it will be interesting to see if they ever pull it off..

I have no problem beliving this time...7:32min is the level tuned 996 reached in 2001 (Gemballa GTR600 7:32,44min)
Why should not a simiar powered lightweight semislick equipped stock Porsche 997 GT2 be able to run similar times?
The CGT was running on road tires never tested on street legal semi slicks... with street legal semi slicks the CGT would drop pretty sure in the 7:20min..

That is their living room. You can be sure that they will not only have a fairly good idea what the car can do there but that they have done it. A lot.

How fast can these cars get? I keep thinking we must be approaching physical limitations of a car with a given size / weight, but then each year something better comes around.

According to Wikipedia the 997 GT3 was driven at 7:42
10 seconds faster is on par with the CGT.
The only thing faster are 'ultra light carts' like Radicals and Donkervoorts, ultra-exotics like the Zonda F, and Purpose built cars like the BMW M3-GTR.

NEVER trust those make-up-pedia times, ANYONE can put something up there and there are no source that you can track.
Use this sit instead: http://www.fastestlaps.com/
They have mods that make sure all the time are legit and came with a source and the name of the driver who is doing the driving.

I can see the typical buyer: some middle-aged guy in a mid-life crisis...
I still want one.

well since the last gt2 didn't have traction/stability control it turned many mid life crisises into end of life crisises :) widowmaker
