Supposed next-gen Porsche 911 sketch debunked

Do not adjust your screens. You are not looking at the next generation Porsche 911 Type 998, as some around the web have erroneously speculated. A tip sent into our sister-blog, Autoblog Spanish, reveals the origin of this sketch, which is part of the online portfolio of conceptual designer Tommy Forsgren. His website actually has sketches of German cars from every ilk: Porsches, BMWs, Mercedes-Benz and even Volkswagen. Perhaps that's because Forsgren currently lives and works in Munich, Germany. Regardless, he is not affiliated with Porsche but actually designs for BMW's DesignworksUSA.

It looks like the back end of a Crossfire.

I agree with #2,
they might as well put those dents on the hood too and slap a chrysler grill on it

I don't an intelligent person could believe that would be the next Carrera. That looks more like a flamboyant Euro tuner car.

Sorry folks, Porsche will never give the 911 a boat tail rear (a la Crossfire). The 911 will always be an evolutionary design, at best. Revolutionary designs will be saved for other vehicles but, oh yeah I forgot, current Porsche management seems to be clueless when it comes to revolutionary design shifts.
Yes, the Boxster, Cayman and Carrera GT are all beautiful cars...but they're all 911 derivatives. Even the bloated Cayman's front end can't escape the face of the 911. Bring back the guys who penned the 928, 944, 968 and other 'in your face' designs that departed from the 911. I love the 911 but I'd still love to see Porsche stray a few steps from their design comfort zone that dates back to the 356.

Too bad that's not the next 911. The 911 is back-ass-wards. Hell, if Porsche really wants to prove it knows how to make sports cars in the first place, let them show me a modern Grand Prix victory from a car with the engine hanging out behind the rear axle. Heck, just give me a victory in ANY competition where 911's aren't the main competition (thus having more sway over the rule-making process).

Sorry, "main competiton" should have been "majority of the competitors"

Well Porsche could use a 911 such as that one, regardless of what the purist think. Those same purist will soon be over the age of 60 and truly for my demographic 25 - 35 the 911 has become boring. All Porsche products are similar in look, and overly purchased by corporate America execs who think it shows success. Well, let me tell you from my gen having the ability to purchase the 911 turbo I will forego it for a much nicer, exclusive, yet less powered vantage.

By the way: After years of wanting a 911 badly, having driven my father's 911, and having test driven at least five 911s for myself, I had the oppurtunity to drive a Ferrari 360 several times. That became my new benchmark for handling. On the way to test drive YET ANOTHER 911, I happened upon an NSX in the showroom of the Porsche dealership. Having never driven an NSX before, I was skeptical but I drove it anyway. I walked out with the NSX never to worry about 911s again.
