There's a new SUV coming from Bentley, and it was recently spotted testing on high-speed race tracks in Europe.
There is a lot riding on the upcoming new SUV from Bentley. As the first such high-riding vehicle from the storied British luxury marque, the Bentayga, as it will be known, will be tasked with extending the Bentley badge into new destinations and more driveways than ever before in all four corners of the Earth.

Bentley? ?Bentayga? Testing on the Nurburgring!
The all new Bentley Bentayga has been spotted doing a few test laps on the famous Nordschleife. This is Bentley's first SUV, and the automaker promises it will be the fastest in the world.

Bentley EXP 9 F SUV Concept
Before there was a Bentley Bentayga, there was this: The Bentley EXP 9 F Concept.
This concept vehicle made its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012, and it signaled Bentley's intention to enter into the rapidly growing SUV market. Although this isn't the actual SUV with which Bentley will enter production, it does offer plenty of clues as to what we should expect when the Bentayga does hit dealerships across the world. -

On January 12th, at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, Bentley announced the following:"Bentley's all-new and ground-breaking luxury SUV is set to be revealed to the world later this year and a name has been chosen: Bentley Bentayga.
This sector-defining SUV will be able to introduce Bentley's renowned modern British luxury to limitless destinations with an impressive combination of on and off road performance.
The natural world, along with the company's founder, inspired its name. Crowning the Northern Hemisphere, to the north of Bentley's birthplace in England, is the dramatic beauty of the Taiga, the world's largest transcontinental snowforest. To the south, the rugged peak of the Roque Bentayga in the subtropical Canary Islands draws attention from all directions and a challenging climb rewards with spectacular panoramic views of a rich and diverse landscape.
Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, comments:

Bentley Bentayga SUV Teaser
Although there is plenty we don't yet know about the Bentley Bentayga, we do know what kind of engines it will offer.
When the luxury SUV launches in 2016, it will do so with a 12-cylinder, gasoline-powered engine. A year later, in 2017, the British automaker tells us that it will add plug-in hybrid and diesel engines to the Bentayga.
This will be the first diesel engine ever offered in a Bentley, and it will be a V8. The gasoline-electric hybrid will be able to drive as much as 31 miles without using a single drop of fuel, courtesy of what we're sure will be a massive lithium-ion battery pack. -

Bentley Bentayga Sketch
Although we have a general idea of what the Bentley Bentayga will look like, the details of the final design have not yet been revealed.
We know the production Bentayga won't look exactly like the EXP 9 F Concept SUV that we saw a few years ago, but the overall shape will be similar, as can be seen in this official sketch from the automaker.
Bentley plans to sell as many as 3,000 Bentayga SUV models per year, and you can be sure that each one of them will be exquisitely crafted, ultra luxurious, supremely powerful and just as expensive. Stay tuned.
