XR 5dr Hatchback
2008 Toyota Matrix
Toyota's Corolla-based 2008 Matrix hatchback combines the versatile layout of an SUV with the frugality of a small passenger car. Two trim levels remain--Standard and XR--and both are powered by a 126-horsepower, 1.8L DOHC four-cylinder engine. The engine has variable valve timing for improved low-rev response, and is especially fuel-efficient, bringing EPA ratings of 26 city, 33 highway with the standard five-speed manual transmission. A four-speed automatic is available. The Matrix's interior layout helps get the most out of its available space. If folding the back seats forward doesn't yield enough space, the front passenger seat also folds forward, and flat. The hatchback's glass can be opened separately for convenient loading of smaller items.Standard trim models are equipped with air conditioning, a height-adjustable driver's seat, and a four-speaker CD sound system. XR models include significantly more equipment, including keyless entry, variable intermittent wipers, a rear-window wiper, and power windows, locks, and mirrors.Anti-lock brakes with brake assist are optional, and vehicle stability control, which helps maintain control during abrupt maneuvers or on slippery surfaces, is optional on Matrix models equipped with automatic transmission. Side impact curtain air bags can also be added.Key options on the Matrix include a moonroof, 17-inch alloys, underbody spoilers, fog lamps, cruise control, a six-disc CD changer, and a JBL audio system.
