VW pits GTI against GLI in the name of Fastivus

Volkswagen is encouraging a friendly rivalry between the GTI and the GLI models and their loyal fans. VW launched a site this week called " Rival Road: GTI v. GLI" in which fans can choose a side and play a web browser game to establish one model's superiority. It's a simple contest that can be played on your desktop or mobile device. To play, you dodge obstacles with a virtual GTI or GLI, and the farther you go, the more points you get.

The competition wraps up on July 27 at 10:30 p.m. Eastern time, and the points you accumulate play dual roles. Individually, you'll want to strive for the highest score possible, because the person with the most distance "driven" at the end of the competition will win a trip for two to Fastivus 2016, a massive gathering of VW fans and their cars in California. As part of the trip, you'll get to ride along with Global RallyCross drivers Tanner Foust and Scott Speed at the event.

Even if you don't win, your points will contribute to your chosen side and will play a role in the final showdown between the two cars. Then a series of R/C car races will happen on July 26 and 27. VW says whichever side has more points will have a competitive advantage in the races. Foust and Speed will host the races during the live stream on Twitch, and fans can participate by voting for obstacles and assists called "fast track, bump & jump, and rotation stations." Exactly what those all do is unclear.
