Watch a helicopter prey on a drifting Toyota GT86

Straight-up racing still packs plenty of excitement in our book, but a whole generation is growing up getting its thrills drifting – or at least watching videos of drifting. And with it, the usual clip of cars racing various types of aircraft has evolved. Like this latest video from Red Bull.

The scarcely believable clip features a car drifting in tandem with a helicopter. Behind the wheel of the Toyota GT86 (better known to us as the Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ) is Polish drifting ace Jakub Przygoński. Manning the controls of a Bolkov BO105 helicopter is none other than Felix Baumgartner. He's the same guy who set an even crazier world record parachuting from the edge of space a few years ago and has recently been trying his hand at racing.

To film the clip, Przygoński and Baumgartner took to the track (and the airspace just above it) in Poland as part of the Red Bull Heli Drifting event. They even got a MiG-21 fighter jet, a Cobra attack chopper, and a pair of RC toys in on the action. The resulting video is well worth the watch for the visual spectacle alone, but pondering its execution is even more mind-boggling. You don't have to take our word for it. Check out the action for yourself in the three-minute clip above, and the equally amazing stills in the gallery below.
