Industry leaders are meeting in Sacramento for the Clean, Low-Carbon Fuels Summit to discuss future policy in California. Supporters feel that California's low-carbon fuel standard to achieve greenhouse gas and climate targets. California Air Resources Board chairman Mary Nichols says in a tweet, "Low-carbon fuels [are] crucial to achieving 2030 climate goals." Calstart President and CEO John Boesel and Advanced Biofuels Association president Michael McAdams urge California to extend the low-carbon fuel standard beyond its 2020 experiation date and to set higher goals for greenhouse gas reductions. The University of Illinois at Chicago and New Energy Innovations are partnering on traffic-powered energy. The Traffic Powered Renewable Energy System (TPRES) uses cylinders inside cartridges installed in the roadway, which compress air when cars drive over them. The compressed air is used to generate electricity, which can be stored during high traffic periods for use later when traffic is low. "The UIC Senior Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Design Teams were the missing link we have been looking for to continue this project and help finalize the best amount of energy production with our unit," says TPRES inventor Ralph A. The University of Illinois at Chicago Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department has announced they have entered into an agreement with New Energy Innovations, Inc., to enhance the new traffic powered sustainable source of clean energy at intersections, municipalities, airport entrances, toll booths, as well as entrance and exit ramps nationwide.
Ralph A. Black, creator and inventor of the patented Traffic Powered Renewable Energy System (TPRESTM) Patent # 8,754,539, along with Chief Technical Officer and co-inventor, Asad Ali, have worked closely together on the design and effectiveness of this renewable energy system. The University of Illinois at Chicago Senior Mechanical Engineering and Design Team will be working on optimizing the best mechanical system.
"The UIC Senior Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Design Teams were the missing link we have been looking for to continue this project and help finalize the best amount of energy production with our unit.
