It looks like a few more folks are getting plugged in on the other side of the Pond.
The number of drivers in the UK who filed for plug-in vehicle rebates from the government rose almost 20 percent during the first half of the year, hinting that sales of models like the Vauxhall Ampera (sister vehicle to the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in) and Nissan Leaf may be on the upswing, UK publication Greenwise Business reports.
In the first half of the year, through June 30, 814 plug-in claims were filed with the Office of Low Emission Vehicles, up from 680 for the same period in 2011. The jump represents good news for plug-in vehicle advocates in the UK after electric-drive vehicle sales dropped during the second half of 2011, when just 212 claims for the plug-in car grant were received. Under the Office for Low Emission Vehicles' program, plug-in car owners are eligible for a grant worth 5,000 pounds ($7,794 U.S. at current exchange rates).
