Video: Bike Cam Captures Hit-And-Run Accident

Police use images to arrest suspect in California case

A California bicyclist mounted a video camera on his bike to document a training ride with Brazilian racer Bruno Gregory. Instead, the video captured a hit-and-run accident in which the driver of a 1995 Acura slams into both cyclists and then speeds away.

The accident occurred on Old Tunnel Road in Berkeley last Wednesday, near the border of Berkeley and Oakland. Both cyclists escaped without serious injuries, according to KGO-TV.

The video – see above – shows traffic zipping past the two riders, before a black Acura crosses into the shoulder and topples both bikers. It also shows, when paused, the license plate of the vehicle.

Police used that information to arrest Michael Medaglia, 43, of Oakland for causing the hit-and-run accident. He reported the vehicle as stole – but not until after the accident had taken place.
