Ford wants to capture a significant chunk of China's expanding automotive market by launching more models equipped with its latest technologies. Late last week, Ford launched the 2011 Mondeo sedan, packed with its fuel-efficient 2.0-liter EcoBoost GTDi engine and six-speed PowerShift transmission in China.

Ford says the Mondeo will sell in China at a starting price of RMB 169,800 ($25,849 U.S, at the current exchange rate) and topping out at RMB 252,800 ($38,484 U.S.). The Mondeo will be offered in at least eight variations.

The heart of the Mondeo lineup will be the 2.0-liter EcoBoost GTDi-powered versions. The gasser cranks out 236 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque – and that amounts to "class-leading power and performance," according to Ford. When paired to the PowerShift dual-clutch tranny, the GTDi-equipped Mondeo returns approximately 30 miles per gallon (U.S.), which allows Ford to claim that the Mondeo boasts "best-in-class" fuel efficiency.
