The Holden Efijy Concept is set to have a little extra (and very well deserved, we may add) time in the spot light. The slinky machine has been chosen to headline Australia's first international concours d'elegance at the end of this month, where it will be joined by classic and exotic vehicles from around the world. Holden first debuted the Efijy back in 2005, and the car immediately garnered praise from hot rod fans and designers alike thanks to its '50s-inspired lines and otherworldly powertrain. You see, under that retro skin sits a thoroughly modern driveline, including a chassis borrowed from a Chevrolet Corvette.
This thing isn't just a looker, either. Under that lead-sled coupe hood sits a fire-breathing, supercharged, 6.0-liter LS2 V8. Should you decide to open up both taps, there's a full 645 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque at your beck and call.
The Australian International Concourse d'Elegance kicks off on October 22 and runs until the 24th. Hit the jump to see the full press release.
MELBOURNE – October 14, 2010: Holden's stunning 21st century hot rod concept − EFIJY − has been chosen to headline a collection of the world's most beautiful cars in Melbourne later this month.
EFIJY will be featured at Motorclassica, Australia's first International Concours d'Elegance and Classic Motorshow at the world heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Buildings in Carlton Gardens from 22-24 October.
First launched at the Sydney Motor Show in 2005, EFIJY boasts V8 Supercar power under the bonnet, a Chevrolet Corvette underbody and state-of-the-art automotive technology.
The 'Soprano Purple' paintwork highlights its curvaceous 5.2-metre body, reinterpreting the classic design cues of the iconic 1953 FJ Holden.
The technology matches the larger-than-life design cues with a 480-kilowatt, supercharged six-litre V8 engine, air-adjustable shock absorbers, touch control LCD screen and fan-cooled LED headlamps.
Holden Chief Designer and EFIJY creator Richard Ferlazzo said the company was honoured to have the Australian concept vehicle chosen to be a part of such a prestigious event.
"We're certainly honoured to have EFIJY displayed in its home city among some of the world's most stunning cars," Mr Ferlazzo said.
"I'm sure EFIJY will evoke different memories for everyone who sees it throughout the event.
"People might focus on the FJ links, the beautiful custom coupes of the 1930s or the even the great design flair of the 1950s."
The EFIJY concept car has gathered a growing legion of fans wherever it has been displayed, receiving world- wide recognition including the prestigious title of 2007 North American Concept Car of the Year by South East Automotive Media Organization (SEAMO).
It was also described as 'probably the most beautiful concept car ever' when it was named Hot Rod of the Year by the influential Hot Rod magazine in the United States.
