Sir Paul McCartney's hybrid concept for sale at Barrett-Jackson

A special Lexus 400h design concept that was built to support Paul McCartney's 2005 U.S. tour is Lot 1547 this Sunday at the Barrett-Jackson auction. The car's theme is designed and hand-painted to reflect his famous 1962 Hofner bass guitar and Vox AC30 amp. The graphics are detailed down to the wood grain, inlay piping, pearloid pickguard and strings. Inside the cabin, the custom seat panels are made from Vox diamond-pattern fabric, and the center console features the pickguard material. A Shure 55 Unidyne microphone is the shifter handle.

The fully-loaded RX400 features a Mark Levinson 11-speaker sound system, rear-seat DVD, navigation system, Antera wheels and tow package. More can be seen at the Lexus-McCartney microsite.

Lexus sponsored the tour and used some of Sir Paul's music in its advertising. At the time, McCartney was quoted as saying: "It's good to be involved with a company that sees the value of an environmentally conscious product."

The car was originally built as a donation to the Adopt-a Minefield charity and was to go to the winner of an online fundraising sweepstakes.
