Well, this should end all those Toyota/Ford merger rumors swirling around. A Toyota spokesman has said company Chairman Fujio Cho did meet with Ford CEO Alan Mulally and Executive Vice President Mark Fields, but it was only a "get-acquainted meeting." According to Automotive News, the spokesman then added: Toyota's top executives constantly meet with counterparts at other automakers. Hmmm. That sounds familiar.
As you may remember, we received an official, but brief, statement from Ford Tuesday. It said, "We meet regularly with other automakers on a variety of topics of mutual interest. "
Coincidence of phrasing? Possibly. Concerted effort to quiet industry speculation? Throw some more coal in the rumor mill, boys!
