Bosch is celebrating its 100th anniversary but hidden in a company news release was a statement from Peter Marks, Bosch's chief for the Americas, that the company expects diesel engines to triple their share of the market.

"We expect diesel's share of passenger cars and light trucks to rise from 5 percent now to around 15 percent by 2015," said Marks.

Bosch will expand its manufacturing operations in the U.S. to accommodate increase capacity for fuel injectors.

Bosch started its American operations in 1906 with magneto ignition. The company celebration includes a traveling trailer that will stop at customer locations, trade fairs and science museums.
