Connecticut mayor switches from Crown Vic to Civic Hybrid

/
The mayor of New Britain, Connecticut, returned a Ford Crown Victoria on loan from the police department and started driving in a Honda Civic hybrid. The city bought two of the $21,235 hybrids last month using about $7,000 in federal funds for each car. The city's public works department is using the other hybrid and the city is trying to get funding for more hybrids. In the near future, various city departments might share the hybrids, although the mayor will continue driving one for now. The Connecticut Department of Transportation distributes federal funds to local governments through the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Program. City officials said they decided on hybrids because alternative fuel filling stations are not available in the area.
