Lotus Europa S pricing and availability announced

The all-new Lotus Europa S, a more civilized two-seat sports car by the makers of the manic Elise, will go on sale as of September 16th, 2006 in such countries as Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Great Britain... but not the U.S. (sigh) The only options available will be Metallic and Lifestyle paint colors, but otherwise the car is fully loaded with airbags, AC, a leather interior and satellite navigation.

Pricing varies thanks to differences in local taxes and exchange rates, but the recommended retail price in Europe is being quoted as €41,500, or $52,356 USD.

Lotus calls driving the Europa S a "Business Class" experience, as opposed to the Coach treatment one receives in the Elise. Lower side sills and a higher roofline make entering and exiting the car more humane, while occupants are also given a luggage compartment large enough for more than just a helmet.

Being a Lotus, the Europa S will weigh a mere 995 kg (2,193 lbs.), which means the 2.0L turbo engine will have no trouble putting all of its 197 hp to good use.
