The story behind "The Automobile"

We were taken aback at the sheer size of "The Automobile" that held court along with the new Audi TT during the latter's debut in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin last month. The size of the sculpture was surprisingly subtle to us until we saw an image of it with a man barely able to see over the tops of its tires.

Fourtitude has an excellent post up from Audi on the development of "The Automobile" and how this 2.5:1 scale model of the new TT came to be. For instance, we always wondered why the wheels looked flat, and it turns out they were truncated to better disperse the load of just under ten tons. Follow the link for the full article.
