The Charade is up: Daihatsu pulling out of Australia

Japanese automaker Daihatsu is pulling outback out of Australia. The Toyota property had been struggling for some time to find Aussie buyers, particularly in view of the growing pool of discount entries from Korea.

Hopes remained high that the new Terios softroader unveiled in Geneva (above) would help matters, but pricing issues and a range of slow-selling stablemates conspired against the brand’s fortunes, resulting in this planned retreat to Japanese shores.

For its part, Toyota spokesman Mike Breen asserts that the company will continue to support Daihatsu owners, saying “… we will have lifetime support for the vehicles we have sold in .”
